I wanted to love the goat hike, I really did. We were all excited about walking goats across fields, enjoying the farm, and bonding as a family. We bonded, but more like cast members on Survivor. Goats are obstinate, strong, and constantly hungry. There are standard, babies, and mini goats. My suggestion would be for a mini goat. Standard goats can, and will, pull a full grown man off his feet if they decide they want to eat something, or catch up with other goats. Baby goats, while adorable and tractable, get tired easily and will just lay down. You are recommended to carry them. The goats that really pull they recommend to just let go of the leash. Unfortunately, when you pay almost $30 to walk a goat, not walking them as an option seems counterintuitive. By the end of our hike almost 50% of the goats were free ranging, dragging their leashes. Between the heat and the MMA octagon experience of "walking" a goat, we won't be doing this again. Ages ranged from 27 to 55. The only one who was successful in walking his goat was my son, who is 6'4", 340 lbs, and 28 years old.

We went for the goat hike on New Years weekend and it was the most fun part of our trip! Definitely a must-do with family. It’s chilly, but you warm up quickly catching up with the goats. Definitely wear shoes you don’t mind getting muddy, and be prepared to be around a lot of goats! They are very gentle. I recommend hiking with a baby goat (ours was very diligent and easy to walk with) or a mini goat. The regular-sized goats are very strong and you will likely have to let go of your leash (encouraged to avoid falling into mud), which is no fun if the point was paying to hike with goats. You can still hike with the other goats and exchange goats with each other later on during the walk. I loved that we got to make pit stops to learn about the history of the farm, feed the goats and even see the tiniest piglets.

Edited to add - the place on West Main Rd is now open again and it’s great!! The owner and her family are great as is Eve - the cow and all the cute goats!! It is listed as Simmons Family Farm now. Check it out - say Tina sent you šŸ˜‚

I am only rating this low because prior to going there with my 3 children I read the reviews…. My kids thought it sounded great and we went. Well they were SHUT DOWN 😩 the parking lot was blocked off but I could see a woman with baby goats, so I pulled off West Main Road as much as possible but I was definitely blocking a lane of traffic and believe me everyone driving by let me know. 🫣😤 I got out and walked to the woman as quick as I could, I know the kids were hoping they could at least get out and see the goats quickly (I admit I don’t know what age it is safe to interact goats with people/children) but if it was safe I would have really appreciated it if the woman let us visit quick. I went over and asked her when they are open for people to visit goats etc. and she told me they aren’t the people who were there previously, they took over and they were getting things ready and should be ready in a couple weeks ..she told me to check on Facebook they would update it and she even spelled ā€œSimmons farmā€ well Simmons farm Facebook, instagram, twitter, google, are all the same person…. The person who used to be there. Even the phone number listed is disconnected. I want to bring my kids back, we all want to see the baby goats but I can’t find updated information anywhere. Maybe change name or something so people can find information and not drive a half an hour each way to find out we can’t visit.

I will update review if I ever find...

Great visit. Fresh veggies and selections of various frozen meats. You are permitted to enter the animal pasture between certain hours when there is an attendant guiding. The animals are great and gentle. Presently a 10month old huggable cow. And the one goat is cuter than the next. And the 6 little piglets🧔🐽 Worthwhile trip. But watch out for the entrance. It's a one car width and many holes šŸ•³ the flat tire kinda holes, so watch out! Not to mention it's right off the two lane semi highway busy street. ♿ Heads up ♿ I came with a handicapped adult and used a adult stroller to enter the pasture. Food for the animals is available in the shop and it's advised that you feed the goats from outside the fence before you enter. They will jump up and head buck you to get their share if you bring food into the pasture. I'm glad and sorry to say that had I not brought the stroller (for ruffer terrain) we would not have enjoyed the day there as it is not well accessible for...
