My third grade class went to Folk's Butterfly Farm for our field trip. I have been a teacher for 20 years, so I have gone to many different businesses and parks over the years for my class trips. To say this was the best field trip my students were able to attend would be an understatement. David and his staff created an educational experience that was so enjoyable for the students. The kids didn't even realize they were learning as they rotated through the different stations. The farm staff truly began with the end of mind for all aspects of this trip. There were things that Folk's Farm did automatically that other places completely lacked. They thoroughly impressed me and all the other third grade teachers on my team. For instance, there was a staff member outside waiting to greet us when we arrived. This allowed for no downtime (a regretful thing to have when working with large groups of kids). While we were entering the farm their staff was removing all of our lunches for us and bringing them into their beautiful pavilion area (where we later ate). There was also an amazing sense of security and safety. When we entered the farm they locked the large wooden gate, so that students were unable to wonder out of the educational areas and no unwanted guests can enter while our students were there. The programs and rotations that the students went through were so fluid. Even when it came to cleaning up after lunch, the students learned a lesson on helping our environment. This was done by David explaining to the children how they separate their trash at Folk's Butterfly farm... the food scraps went into a bucket to feed local livestock, anything that can be recycled was placed in the proper bins, and this lead to a minimum amount of waste going into landfills. The kindest gesture was when David realized there was a large number of purchases at the gift shop and decided to give several of our students that didn't bring money a couple of dollars, so they could participate in purchasing a memory like their friends. This is an incredible place to visit with a superior staff - definitely...
Read moreMy family and I had a very disturbing experience at the Folks Butterfly Farm stand at the Bloomsburg Fair. We witnessed a young worker pulling the wings off a butterfly and showing it in his hand. When I questioned him, he shrugged and said "it's just a butterfly" and “I don’t know.” I reported it to the man running the entrance, who was dismissive, rude, and insisted it was already dead even though I saw it moving.
Even if the butterfly had been deceased, pulling wings off and displaying it in front of children is extremely inappropriate for an attraction marketed as educational and family-friendly. My 7-year-old, my mother-in-law, and I were very upset by this.
When I tried to raise my concern further, the owner gave me a dismissive response calling it an “inconvenience” and then blocked me from his business page for speaking up. Instead of taking accountability and handling the situation professionally, this business chose to silence criticism.
This was a very upsetting experience and I cannot recommend this attraction. Families...
Read moreThis was a trip with CCA school. It was wonderful. They had plenty of activities for the kids. Alot of information on the Butterfly cycle from eggs...to caterpillars...to a butterfly. We saw some eggs on leaves, held a Caterpillar and saw butterflies all over in the butterfly house. We even got to feed them. The grounds were beautiful with a gazebo, a pavilion and a pond. Truly a great experience! Dave and his staff were...
