We stayed for one night in Yurt 2 with our two dogs in early/mid October during weeknights. With only a handful of campsites and only a few other campers that I don’t think we saw but once during our visit, it felt as if we were entirely alone in the woods up in the mountains during peak foliage and as casual campers, it was a little intimidating to us yet absolutely beautiful.
As someone who grew up camping typically In more mainstream campsites, I cannot begin to explain how secluded, DARK and QUIET this place is but in such an incredible and beautiful way. The silence at night was almost deafening and it felt as though we had the entire park to ourselves. This is about as close as you can get to feeling like you’re camping back country while staying in a state park campground. The peak autumn foliage, amazing fire-tower 360, the dark skies with so many stars visible, and the seclusion in the woods made for one of the best escapes to nature I’ve ever had.
Our Yurt had a short uphill pathway from our parking spot and it felt nice and tucked away into the woods yet still easy to get to and relatively close to our car which we could see from our site. We really loved the sites. Even the tent sites seemed very nice as they each had their own platform. A thing to note is the yurts can still get cold for those that have never stayed in them, especially with air between your floor and the ground (about a few feet up.) Bring a high quality sleeping bag and extra blankets in the fall. We were so happy when it started raining overnight and we were warm in dry In our sleeping bags rather than a small tent. Cell service was surprisingly the best we had during our 1 week trip to NH.
Pros: Beautiful, isolated, quiet, incredible campsites, privacy, friendly rangers, firewood available, incredible views from fire tower.
Cons: No showers or full service bathrooms (though campers have free access to showers nearby and compostable outhouse toilets are located near the campsites. Potable water...
Read moreWe spent from Friday, August 24 through Monday August 27, 2018 at this park camping. It was so much fun. Perfect for taking quiet walks with our dog and son or playing games at the campsite. The sunsets and sunrises from the fire tower were amazing. The views in general from the tower were outstanding. The man in the office, Rod, was wonderful. He was so helpful and was always in the office when the hours said he would be. What a great person to have manning the park house. He explained all about the hornet nest in his office to my son and was more than happy to explain which walking trails might be best for views. Be aware there are no shower facilities at this park and they have pit toilets (honestly they were cleaner than most of the regular park toilets I have been to!) Rod can give you a note to use the shower facilities at nearby Jericho State Park though (very clean as well!) We will definitely be back to camp at Milan Hill State...
Read moreGrew up at this park. And after a 33 year absence, I returned with my family. Great views, great sites. Even with all the yurts occupied it was quiet and peaceful at our camp site. The ranger is a awesome source of info about anything in and around Milan Hill. Im going to do my best to get back there every year. The only thing the park does not have is showers, but I know its in the works. Hopefully indoor toilets will follow...lol Really it is well...
