A hidden gem for nature lovers and families!
We absolutely loved our visit to the Coastal Center at Milford Point.
It's such a peaceful and educational place, surrounded by natural beauty. The boardwalk leading to Long Island Sound offers incredible views, and we were lucky enough to spot a variety of shorebirds — even the famous Ospreys nesting nearby!
The sanctuary is clean, well-maintained, and full of life. We brought our grandson along and he was thrilled to watch birds through the binoculars..
The observation tower gives a beautiful view of the salt marshes.
The SUNSET at Milford Point was absolutely breathtaking — a perfect and clear sky elevated the beauty of the sun . As the sun dipped below the horizon and shades of orange reflecting off the calm waters of Long Island Sound was really magical one..
It’s one of those quiet, unforgettable moments that stayed long and forever too...
It's’ clear that the staff and volunteers are deeply committed protecting wildlife and their conservation. They Deserve appreciation 💐💐💐 for the updates about the birds and the air quality monitoring initiative — such a great example of science in action..
Even though the building was closed during the week for summer camp, there was still so much to enjoy outside. The outdoor bathroom near the parking lot was clean and convenient.
Highly recommend visiting — for a birder, photographer OR just want a quiet moment in nature. We'll definitely be back for another beautiful sunset and more...
Read moreThis was such an amazing find! Would hate to see it get crowded but hopefully after visiting this jewel anyone would be inspired to protect our environment. As soon as we stepped onto the grounds we heard the sounds of many birds, saw sparrow families at the feeders, butterflies (cabbage whites, monarchs and swallowtails) looking for their favorite flowers, and a bunny eating near a wigwam. The walk on the shore was filled with fiddler crabs, seagulls and sandpipers. We had fun catching the fiddler crabs that were the size of a grain of rice and smaller. At some point you hopefully get to climb the spiral ladder to the watch tower and enjoy the amazing marsh views. Inside you'll find a great area for children to observe and explore. Hopefully, you'll get to observe the osprey family before the migrate. I don't want to give all the details away but definitely, definitely a place to visit if you're a nature fan! Thank you to the volunteers that help...
Read moreWent thinking I'd get in a good walk on a different stretch of sand & discovered a little gem of a place! We were able to spot a couple piping plover chicks while walking the beach, thanks to some volunteers that told us what to look for. There is a parking lot next to the Audubon building & a viewing platform near the marsh where the purple martin nests ate (you can sponsor a best!). There are information signs at various locations outside & inside has some tanks with various marsh critters ( turtles, crabs n little fish), a little bit of interactive stuff for the kiddos, a few telescopes so you can get a better look at the osprey nest & other birds. There was a volunteer inside that also was a wealth of information, bathrooms (we stayed longer than expected so that was a relief) & souvenirs can be had. Unfortunatly, but for obvious reasons dogs are not allowed. They rely on donations if you're...
