Walter B. Williams Park — Attraction in Milledgeville

A lovely park with ball fields, a lake, walking track, picnic areas, playground, and a gazebo. Here’s what we experienced in the hour we spent in this park: Some men were having softball practice on the field. One guy was a really good batter. That was nice to watch. Some guy was walking his huge dog, without a leash, and it doodooed hugely on the walking track. He picked it up with a Walmart bag then, without sealing it, put it in the trash can 1 foot from where we were having a picnic. So that smell was not lovely. Also he was letting it run up to other walkers and jump on them. Some young people drove several cars through the parking area near the playground with kids on it at about 50 mph. Some motorcycle biker types were hanging out in the parking lot revving their engines loudly and working on their bikes. They mean-mugged everybody who walked or drove past them. Great park, recently dept seems not on top of things when it comes to rec. sports . my daughter has played softball here for 3 or 4 years and only once did they recieve a trophy well a medal that were left over from a previous season and they had to peel off the original description from the other team and this last season they got left over shirts . only once did the recieve a decent uniform but every year still pay the same for a t shirt and shorts . all the attention goes to baseball. it's also a shame that there are fewer girls each year that play and there is hardly enough for 2 teams in each age group but I also think it's due to how the program is run bC we have thought about going to a different county as well but still hold out hope it will change. . it could be something great if someone who cares...

A great place to have a large gathering (traveled from FL, SC, GA, TN). Access is a bit tedious for older folks or disabled...however our family reunion party of 40 was told it was ok to drive on the grass to drop off some elderly and to unload food etc. So not a problem. Very well maintained with electric overhead fans, lights, picnic tables, lined trash receptacles, spotless, full equipped male/female restrooms, all areas swept clean. We had the pleasure of speaking to a facility maintainer, Ms. Catherine Jordan--Baldwin County could not have a more pleasant, helpful, harder working employee. A great county ambassador!
