The trail was beautiful! The colors were in full show and the weather was a perfect crisp autumn morning. Parking was easy, and there is an outhouse for a bathroom, make sure to bring your own sanitizer. There is also a $5 self pay fee for the day (cash only)! The trail was modifiable to make it as short or as long as you'd like. There was a variety in difficulty and so lots of hills to climb up. Quite a number of trees fallen down and ran into some blocking the trail. Easy to climb up and over or go around for a detour. When there was a gust of wind, some of the thinner trees gave way to ominous creeking so just stay alert. There were parts of the trail that had overgrown and lots of tall plants/grass, so make to do a quick tick check during your hike and afterwards. We came across a deer during our hike so they're out and about! The trail was easy to follow and well marked. It also is used for backpacking and we came across a number of tents in designated...

Nice place to get away from the crowd for hiking and backpacking. We were here on a Friday and Saturday in early August, and there were only 2 other cars. It is mostly easy hiking in mixed hardwood and conifer forest, but some parts of the trail have tall grass and a few have brambles - I recommend long pants. The bugs weren't bad except close to swampy areas. The lakes are small, nothing spectacular, but they make a nice...

One of the worst trails I've ever been on and I been on a lot. Trail was totally covered with down trees, overgrown, trees growing over the trail, poorly marked trail. The dog and I were so miserable that I decided to take the 2 track shortcut back to the main trail as shown on the map however all the two track did was get me lost plus it was just as impassable as the main trail. Carrying a fully loaded 60 liter pack added...

Great Place To Backpack in and Camp. Hiked in from the East Trailhead and camped on north hoist lake. There's a few more camping spots than what shows on the trail map if you explore a little bit. Camped July 30th-Aug 1st and bug's were not as bad as anticipated. Would recommend for beginners and experienced alike.

Beautiful scenery all around the hiking trails, people you run into are always friendly and all the campsites are well kept when people leave (though don't dig bare handed in ANY fire pits, ever!). The lakes are beautiful to camp at and you'll get to spend the night with a noisy porcupine if you're lucky!

Great elevation changes throughout the area, great terrain for hiking through the woods. Many great spots on Byron Lake for setting camp. Looking forward to backpacking to N. & S. Hoists on next visit.
