Ran into the owner the other day while making a delivery to a local high-end, gourmet restaurant. The guy knew his stuff about mushrooms, as one who should in this industry.
After about a 10 to 15 minute exchange of talking all things shrooms, forging a local parks and places, he handed me a gift in the way of some of his product and said if I'm ever in the area to stop by the farm.
Not wanting them to go the way of what sometimes fresh produce does when left in the fridge for too long, my friend and I cooked them up last night (same day as I received them) and we made an incredible chicken with a wild rice style risotto and sauteed up the mushroom medley he had given me along with some seasoning like garlic and oil and such.
They were fresh, none of the earthiness or having sat in any way that they were bruised, had a very delicious clean taste which are reminiscent of when there was no such thing as the word organic, there was simply gardening and growing your own food.
So if you're looking for mushrooms, I highly recommend looking here.
PS - the owner seemed to be a really chill shroom, you know, a fun guy...
Read moreMy first experience at a mushroom farm was at Two River Mushroom and it exceeded my expectations of a mushroom farm experience. That a very kind and kindred spirit named Dave while there whom was very knowledgeable and forthcoming with the mushroom growing and selling process. Read moreWhat a great surprise to find this wonderful and fascinating specialty farm only 1/2 hour away from our home. The owners and staff welcomed our visit and educated us on how to cultivate mushrooms. Very engaging and helpful. Can’t wait for their mushroom events in the spring and summer highlighting using mushrooms in dishes that will be prepared by New Jersey chefs from some of the fine restaurants in the area. Other mushroom related events will also be featured. Can’t wait. We did purchase a variety of mushrooms that were harvested from their growing rooms. Cooked them that night. Outstanding. I encouraged everyone to take advantage and visit this very interesting little slice of of New Jersey’s...
