I’m surprised that so many reviews seem to focus on the nice facility rather than the wines. It’s an old Grange Hall, which is very cool, and the wood bar is beautiful! But it’s the wine that counts, right?
We are dry wine drinkers, which can still make life difficult at some Ohio wineries, where sweet wine is the money-maker. Well, Halliday’s dry and semi-dry wines are very good and go down nicely. What amazes me is that this is true for all of them, and I cannot say that about most wineries- anywhere.
We’ve been to most of the wineries in Ohio and western PA, many in New York, and generally find 2 or 3 dry wines we like, maybe a couple that might be passable, and some that are pretty unpleasant. We haven’t found anything at Halliday’s that we didn’t like. They even have a couple of semi-dry and a semi-sweet that we can drink. That’s beyond rare for us!
Now I wouldn’t know a $100.00 bottle of wine unless someone broke one over my head, but I doubt that anything at Halliday’s would fool you into thinking that you’re drinking an expensive reserve from Rioja or Bordeaux. That’s not the point. These are really nice, drinkable wines that will pair well with just about anything. -And their prices are more reasonable than most.
Halliday’s makes for a fun evening out when you want to relax and enjoy the company of a friend or three. The staff there is welcoming and accommodating, and their customers seem to be the same.
I recommend you go, try several wines, get a pizza or panini, buy a bottle and enjoy the evening. You’ll probably get to hear some pretty good music as well. It won’t cost you a fortune, and you can still take a few bottles home without going broke.
If I could recommend any improvement, it would be that they add a dry rosé to the wine list. The secret is out, and American wine drinkers are beginning to discover what Europeans have known forever. Halliday’s has a good wine maker who’s more than capable of making a really good rosé. They’re making it up around Geneva now... How about...

Unimpressed with the blue and red sangrias. Wine slushie thing was a bit better, but sweet and weak. Refreshing, at least, on this 95° day. Wife didn't care for any of her wines out of her 3-flight sampler. That is surprising, she can find the good in anything.
Halladay's House Salad was unimpressive. Pretty plain and forgettable, although the peppery ciabatta bread dipped in ranch was excellent!
Wife had the next salad down, with sliced almonds and chicken. It was a bit better, but same bagged, plain, bland lettuce, that we watched the teenage cook bring from downstairs, across the dining hall to the kitchen.
The one bartender was cute, fun and attentive. She was squared away.
The other one looked miserable and without any personality at all. We interacted with both and much preferred the first girl.
They have a lot of tables set up outside, many near the water's edge, but it's an ugly brown water that isn't very pleasant to look out.
Mama cat and several kittens live behind the trash dumpster, we gave them a couple cups of water.
All in all, a one and...
Read moreIn this place, you order and pay for the food, and then go wait outside for it to be ready, then they call your phone. I ordered the food, went outside (the view was amazing) and found myself a table, only to realize most of the seats only had around 1 bar of signal. Eventually my calls were working, but it took a while to get it to work. I had to wait 40-50 minutes for the food to be ready, and when it arrived, to my surprise the food was terrible! The pizza that I ordered was pretty expensive, and I thought that it would be big. But it was tiny. And with the sandwich I ordered, there were these pickles, that tasted like pure sugar. There were also tiny chips that came with it, they tasted...
