As you near the park there is endless garbage everywhere. Is there nobody who can form a committee to clean the place up? I wanted to use a restroom before hiking. McDonalds doors were closed. The gas station's said out of order, the next McDonalds had a lock and the line was too slow to bother to order something so I could get a lock code. The next gas station said somebody was in there, but nobody ever came out and the door looked to be taped shut. I finally used a bathroom at Walgreens. It was gross and there was nothing to dry your hands with. The hike was disappointing to say the least. Garbage is in the river and fields. If not for the garbage it could have been an ok hike in spite of the slummy...

I finally got to visit this place and I was astounded at the beauty this forest holds. When I heard about this place and how it was the state's only "urban forest" I was filled with doubt about how much of a "forest" it could be. One of the best things I can do while venturing on a hike is get lost, and I got lost a couple times here. There is a lot of land, and with it being urban you can sometimes get close to traffic or even train tracks.

Most of the animals were elusive so I didn't really get many wildlife shots but I'm going to be coming back here from time-to-time. My only con for this place is that it closes at 8pm.

I changed my rating system to include decimals, so I give this...

I was born and raised in the Havenwoods area so I knew about Havenwoods State Forest even before it became a state forest. It was essentially an abandoned barracks when I was a child so it was simply called "the barracks". Fast forward many, many years later, well maintained mulch and gravel trails wind through Havenwoods with benches here and there. There is even a pond in the middle and a learning center for children.

I frequently went to Havenwoods State Forest to take pictures, even in winter. People walking their dogs is a very common thing so don't be surprised. If you want a little piece nature in the city,Havenwoods State Forest is a great...

As a biophile, finding this place is a godsend for life in this city. Came here on Thanksgiving for the first time and had such a good time just wandering with my pooch. Was even still a fair bit of green foliage this late in the year. Walking out on the little dock and just listening to ducks quack and swim while the sun kissed my cheeks was extremely soothing and something i wouldn’t mind doing everyday. Still obvious that you’re surrounded by this noisy unnatural urban environment with all the cars clanking and whizzing down the terribly maintained streets… but if you plug your ears or put on headphones, you can totally pretend your in a real forest.
