This was our first experience picking blueberries and it couldn't have been any better. Taking the advice of friends, we arrived around 9:00 am. There is a just a small white sign in front of the driveway, so be watching for that. Once turning in, we were met by the owner's wife who directed us to the best part to pick and made sure we had what we needed. They provide your buckets. Parking was easy and their porta potty was clean, luckily, since it was my two year old who had to go. The picking was fabulous with plenty of ripe berries and the rows were weeded and cleared out which meant that we weren't swatting at our ankles the whole time and felt comfortable enough to crouch down and get under the plants for the juiciest ones of all. Between my husband, myself, our six year old and two year old, we stayed an hour and almost filled a one gallon bucket. Upon checkout the cost was prorated due to how much we picked. She had homemade blueberry ice cream for sale as well as various jams. I believe the best part was the actual product. For those in my family who don't like blueberries, they were eating them with gusto. Friends who tasted our berries (and saw the size of them) couldn't get enough and my sister, who lives in the Dallas area, made us promise to tell her when we go again so that she can make the trip. Prices are very good compared to the grocery store - $14 per gallon, but you can also pick smaller amounts and only pay for what you pick.
The picking areas were neatly mowed and trimmed, so we didn't have to fight the weeds or worry about critters. I didn't notice any fire ants either, which is a great thing! Plus you get early pickings, but there are enough plants where that shouldn't matter too much.
The do have homemade ice cream and other items for sale at a stand as you enter. We ended up at this farm after a friend shared some of their blueberries they had recently picked - they were so sweet that we had to give it a try and I'm...
Read moreLots of fun! Was nice and quiet when we went on Wednesday afternoon. We got two big buckets full of delicious blueberries for $15 each. The kids got homemade blueberry ice cream for $4 per generous container full. Easy to find though it looks like you're driving onto a private residence at first so don't let that throw you. Once they give you the buckets you drive over to fields where parking is. Only a port-a-potty near fields so have the kids use the restroooms...
