Birch Coulee Battlefield is a Minnesota Historical Site. Driving through the site brings you to The Birch Coulee Renville Country Park. The two are next to each other but are actually separate. You can visit the Historical site and camp in the County park. Reservations are required for a camping spot but you don't need to camp. Some of the battlefield informational signs are worn from the weather but you can still read them. I posted pictures of them.

This is a really cool place to bring dogs and kids that you want to run. It has a rentable covering with tables and grills. It has water for the kids to play in sand and rocks to skip rocks in it. Has electrical hookups for RVs and or tents. Highly recommend this place kind of a hidden gem

What once once a battlefield during the Dakota War of 1862 is now an area filled with native plantings. There is a trail with signage that tells the story of the battle but no historic buildings so it's like reading a book while taking a nature walk on a gravel trail.

This self-guided trail through recreated prairie was well kept and interesting. In early September, there were lots of wildflowers in bloom and I was able to observe many insects and butterflies. One of three nearby sites dealing with the Dakota War of 1862, this was the most informative. By the parking lot, there is a bench under an awning and a nearby picnic table under a roof that offers respite from the sun. This site might not seem to have a lot to offer but I think learning about the Dakota War has been very thought provoking and the prairie landscape was a...

Layed out great, the sign markers really bring it to life, it's almost as if you were there during the battle, you can imagine the stress of the US men being surrounded. For such a small area it's really interesting how being at one area really changes the point of view of the lay of the land, and it's easy to see how they got surrounded without really even...
