My family and I stayed at the Maplelag resort for week during a Concordia Language Camp. We were there at the end of June/beginning of July, so I can't comment on how nice the place would be for winter visitors. That said, our stay there was awesome.
There are various accommodation lodges, and we were in the Candy Store lodge. Our room had three full sized beds, one twin, and four top bunk twins. There was a private bathroom with two sinks, a toilet, and a shower (no tub). The main communal lounge area of the Candy Store also had a large refrigerator that everyone could use. The beds were all comfortable and everything was well maintained.
The only two minor complaints I have are that the water from the sinks had a metallic taste and it was incredibly bright in the morning (at 5:00 AM). I can't blame Maplelage for the sun since the resort was built for skiers (where the wintertime daylight is shorter). We just put some seat cushions against the windows and that helped block out the sun :-) The water at the main Lodge was fine, so we just filled up our water bottles before we went back to Candy Store.
The main Lodge is massive and beautiful. The lower floor has a Foosball table, ping pong table, and air hockey table. The main floor has a massive and beautiful dining hall. The top floor has a large collection of books and board game. The owner has a huge collection of various signs and they're hung all over the lodge.
My most favorite part of this place was Little Sugarbush Lake. It's a 220 acre lake that doesn't see a lot of boat traffic and the fishing pressure seems low. I had a few hours to fish from the dock each day and I caught: 10" Crappie, 10" Bluegill, 14" LM Bass, 22" Northern Pike, and a 25"+ Northern that bent my swivel clasp as I was landing it and got away. I heard that someone had caught a 23" LM Bass the previous week. So this is a great fishing lake.
Lastly, I'd say the owner is very nice and accommodating. I'm sure this would be a fantastic place for skiers during the winter time, but I'm definitely coming back again during the...
Read moreSpent two nights in the cozy Norwegian Log cabin. It was a peak experience for me and my buddy as the natural snow trails, in the wooded acreage, all carefully groomed, were well matched by the cozy cabin, equipped with everything you need and more. It's freshly and stylishly remodeled with an emphasis on comfort. Slept like a baby, and cooked up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen, featuring a new stove, refrigerator, pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker, plates, cups, etc. There's plenty of room to relax and hang out in a sitting room with an over-sized leather chair, couch and comfortable chairs. The bathroom is similarly well-done and comfortable with towels and hot water galore. Because it's clean, comfortable and quiet, you really will enjoy your stay, made only that much better by your owner/hosts who are responsive to any need and are admirably dedicated to preserving the natural wood recreational area that they loving care...
Read moreNote: we went as day skiers and not overnight guests and this is during covid. They charge a fee of 25 dollars per person for day use of their XC ski trails, which I think it pretty spendy. I understand that the lodge is closed to everyone except overnight guests but when we got there they were short with us and told us we could use the porta potties outside and that we had to change and warm up in our cars. They wouldn’t let us walk around the lodge, and when I tried to get a cup of tea and a cookie the front desk man told me it was closed and shoved a policy paper in my face. They watched us like hawks while inside and ushered us to the door and did everything but shove us out the door. The ski trails were very nice and we had a nice time once we...
