I only had time for the section from Natchez to Jackson but enjoyed the visit (drive) tremendously. A very relaxed (50 mph limit) drive on a Sunday morning. We saw about 20 cars in 3 hours but plenty of rolling hills and natural Forrest. We stopped at Emerald Mound and where surprised by its size, snapped pictures of the old, mostly for-walking trace, stopped pretty much at every historical side, and visited Mount Locust. This former residence (1780-1944) became an Inn and way point 1 days hike away from Natchez. The NPS collected many tools from the 1800"s and has them on display. Well worth the stop. Take your time on the Trace, stop at creeks to cool off, have a picnic, look around, and you will enjoy your ride. You will not be making great time on the trail but you will have a great time. The National Park service is an outstanding institution and I hate to see how its funding...
Read moreThree stars is for bicycling only. I would probably give a 5-star for auto or motorcycle scenic drive. We had an amazing, epic bicycle adventure on the Tennessee portion. But, bicyclists please do not be lulled into thinking that the locals -- especially in southern Tennessee -- are happy to have bicyclists share their personal expressway. We encountered a few locals in cars and pickups who were glad to make us wish we were not there with their antics that included a couple of high-speed, too-close-for-comfort passes. They enjoyed frightening us. We could see them laughing in their mirrors. It seems that all the locals know there is NO enforcement for the 45 to 50 MPH speed limits so they drive like they are on the interstate. In contrast, all the tourists in their cars were courteous and drove as if they were concerned for the...
Read moreMy family and I started our adventure on the Natchez Trace on October 10, 2018. We started in Natchez then moved on to the Jackson area then stopping that day in Kosciusko . There are so many wonderful stops on the parkway to stop at and take pictures. We picked back up May 29, 2019 in Kosciusko and only made it to Tupelo this time. We went to the Drane House in French Camp. This was a walk back in history, by far our favorite on the Trace. It was like a small town back from the Mid 1800's. When we start back up we have to back up a little to the Black Belt because my pictures were dark and I wanted to see that in the daytime. We spent too long at...
