The home of the Natchez chief who defeated the deSoto bunch. This is where I also first met Natchez Nation Principal Chief Hutke Fields. On September 22 I finally met Uvcenv Cunv Uvsel Hutke Fields in person. It was at Winterville Mounds, near Greenville in Mississippi, during the fourth annual Winterville Mounds Association meeting. It was a great time, and I am so happy to have gotten to meet Cunv Fields as well as the others there at the meeting. It was a great experience. Below is a picture of myself and Cunv Fields. He talked about Kwe-kwvl-rvm, the Uvcenv Cunv Uvsel who put a stop to DeSoto's invasion in Nvce Nation back in the 1540s, as well as the Nvce creation story as well as other parts of Nvce culture and history. I have a recording of the meeting, so that I can have a way to ensure that I don't forget the wonderful things I learned. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to share it in this post. Oh well. Anyways, mvto Hutke Fields for inviting me to come. It was a very fun experience, and I look foward to learning more from you in the future. That's all I can think to say, except for Happy Autumn and have a great...

Lovely mounds that are impressive on approach driving up. The little museum on site is currently being renovated and thus closed but the site is still worth the 15 or so minutes north of the bridge across the Mississippi if you are interested in native mounds.

Supposedly mound A is one of the largest mounds (55ft) in the United States and the 11 mounds albeit a fraction of the original 23 shows the significance of the civilization to the area, generally considered a regional power

Definitely limited things to do here but a nice road stop to stretch the legs and see...

Sure it's beautiful, we've been wanting to see this so long, website said it was open... Woke up really early and drove very far just to see locked gates.. I get the pandemic is causing inconvenience.. But the biggest inconvenience is having a website and not updating it to let everyone know that you in fact will not be open.. Literally waisted the only off...

Just north of Greenville with a nice welcome center. On stop of many along Mississippi mounds River trail. Usually like to climb the mounds we visit but these were off limits. Still another great stop with a chance to brush up on history of this interesting area.
