Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge — Attraction in Mississippi

Drove around and around, never found the hiking trails. Literally had to drive over huge branches laying across the road. Trees Along road not trimmed back, scraped across roof of SUV in places. Found a few maps, none of them marked with "You are here" so didn't really do us much good. Visitor Center staffed for a few hours on Tuesdays only due to staffing. Seems like this place has tons of potential but has been completely ignored by the Federal Agency that runs it. If your going to visit anytime other than a Tuesday when someone could provide assistance, I'd pick a different...

Nice refuge with plenty of wildlife! Saw a snake on the road, so be slow and careful when driving. He almost got smooshed by a speeding pickup but I had stopped to let the snake warm up and move on. Nice paths, readily available maps and booklets. The huge birds and several deer made it even better.

Many spots need maintenance though, from the boardwalk to the signage on trees. Many tree signs were pointing to dead trees, which is sad. And the wasps in the bird blind were bad news! If it got some TLC this refuge could be...

Hubby and I saw this as we drove past and turned around for it. The preserve is HUGE! We only got a chance to see the gators, though the map lists a bear area as well. The gators were very cool! There's no fences between them and yourself, so don't do anything stupid. There is an overlook tower but we had better luck seeing them from the paths. Would love...
