Rocky Top Trail at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri is a real treat for those who love to hit the trails. This roughly 2-mile hike is just the right blend of challenge and fun for both newbies and seasoned hikers.
The trail winds through some lush woods, so there’s plenty of shade to keep you cool, especially during those hot Missouri summers. You’ll find parts of the path rocky (hence the name), mixed with stretches of smoother dirt trails. This mix keeps the hike interesting both visually and physically.
One of the best parts about Rocky Top Trail are the awesome overlooks along the way. These spots offer killer views of the Lake of the Ozarks—perfect for snapping some photos or just taking a break to soak in the peace and quiet of the surrounding nature. The lake itself, known for its clear and inviting waters, adds a refreshing backdrop to your hike.
As you wander along, you might see some local wildlife like white-tailed deer and wild turkeys, or hear birds chirping overhead. The woods are full of native trees and the air smells fresh and earthy—it's just a really nice spot to spend a morning or afternoon.
So, if you’re in the area and looking for a great way to spend a few hours, Rocky Top Trail is definitely worth checking out. Whether you’re in it for the exercise, the views, or just a little peace and quiet, this...
Read moreOut of towners here... we found this place based on a google search and saw that it was dog friendly, which was huge since we had our 2 dogs with us. My watch calculated 2.11 miles at 54 minutes. I wish there was a map guide before you started the trail so we knew where we were walking. There is only one loop if you stay on the trail, you will go down hill and up some hills, and the grass will likely brush over you. You will walk through the first part, then through a open part and then back into the woods, as long as you stay on the path, it will all loop back. Follow the yellow tags posted on the trees. The pathway in the beginning is narrow but opens up a lot more half way through the hike. Very rocky, would recommend wearing a something to cover your feet or something that will stay on your feet. You will pass the water, steep over trees, and walk on a lot of uneven ground.
WEAR A TICK REPELLANT!! On our way back, this women was nice enough to make us aware to check our dogs for cedar ticks as she found her dog covered in these. We didnt run into this, but myself, my partner, and dogs were covered in tick larva. Not sure at what point we ran into this, but just an FYI. I have hiked several locations, and never ran into this... first time for...
Read moreI have a bad knee, and my wife is recovering from back surgery in April. We decided to check out this trail today. The beginning is a steady ascent, a little rocky at times. Once you get past the open field, you come into the woods and begin a pretty steep descent over loose rock. Very dangerous for bad knee people, but I survived. We got down by the creek and saw a trail on the other side and 1 going to the left. Since there are no maps, we didn't cross the creek and walked to the left. It slowly meanders halfway on the hill until it brings you closer to the waters edge. Definitely watch your step on these trails. Following the trail will bring you up between the bathroom and the picnic shelter... it may go further but we were done for the day. Beautiful scenery and I was in wonder of how they made the trails. If there was a paper or digital map to show the trail, and maybe some kind of direction along the way, I could bump to 5*. For the most part, the trail is easy but up and down the rocky parts makes...
