Dive into Nature's Wonderland: A Homeschool Mom's Perspective
Hey there, fellow nature lovers! Let me tell you about our absolute favorite spot in town: Watkins Park Nature Center. It's like stepping into a magical world of natural wonders and friendly faces, right in the heart of our community.
Let me start by giving a standing ovation to the phenomenal staff at this nature haven. Seriously, they're not just staff – they're family! Amanda, the manager extraordinaire, is the mastermind behind the magic, ensuring every visit is an unforgettable experience. Tiara, she is the welcoming committee, greeting us with a grin and making sure our homeschool gang gets signed up for all the coolest classes. Not to mention. Her reminder emails hold us busy moms accountable so we don’t miss a beat.
Now, let's talk about the real MVPs: Ash, Lizzie, Laura, Aileen, Morgan, and Jaron. These folks? They're the heart and soul of the Nature Center. Ash is like the animal whisperer, and my kids are obsessed with his critter encounters. Lizzie’s kindness and gentle demeanor is so welcoming and gently invites you to experience wildlife in a new way. Laura, she's been an exhausted homeschool mom’s saving grace with her unmatchable wit, forcing me to remain present and in stitches while exploring the nature center while learning something new.
Aileen's passion for nature is downright contagious and we always have a good time while learning tons of animal facts. Morgan, well, she is a homeschool hero, turning every lesson into an epic quest. She has single handedly boosted my family’s homeschool experience, by partnering with Jaron to curate courses to fit our curriculum needs. Speaking of Jaron, he's the wild child, channeling his inner Steve Irwin to give us the ultimate nature fix! Once you attend one of his experiences, you are hooked!
The nature center truly helped revolutionize my homeschool! Being somewhat of a helicopter mom, I was eased into the most adventurous programming like day and night hikes, campfires, Night at the Nature Center, and just about every class they have to offer from my toddler to my elementary aged children. The knowledgeable staff made it easy! We even hosted an academic campfire event for a local homeschool co-op!
AND it is affordable! Most classes are under $10 making this a great homeschool win! Quality programming with great academic content that is full of adventure, extraordinary educators, and it fits the budget! Even if you do not sign up for a class, we learn something new every visit and they always have free family events.
Oh, and I can’t forget about the scout classes – my girls have racked up more badges than a scout troop on a mission! From hiking to bug hunting, there's an adventure waiting for every nature-loving kiddo.
But you know what really sets Watkins Park Nature Center apart? It's the vibe. It's more than just a nature center; it's a haven of community, where families come together, friendships flourish, and memories are made.
So, if you're ready to ignite your kids' passion for nature and dive headfirst into the adventure of a lifetime, look no further than Watkins Park Nature Center. Trust me, you won't regret it. Hats off to the Nature Center crew – you guys are absolute...

Read moreWatkins is such a cute place to bring kids. They have the playground, the farm, and the nature center. The nature center is closest to the playground and easily accessible from a path towards the back of the playground. It's a nice break from the playground in the heat or cold. The staff is nice and always to talk to visitors about the animals. The animals are rescues that cannot be released back into their homes because of injuries and such. They have some birds of prey, crows, and the cutest little owls you have EVER seen. The have a fish pond in the middle of the room. Kids love to look into it but you have to keep an eye on them because it's a steep drop into water if they climb over the fence. They also have reptiles and amphibians. Apparently, they also do birthday...
