It’s a long walk! Like 40mins to get there. There was no place to find cold water for the right temperature. Some of the tubs are broken and they are actually really dirty and slimy. I would recommend that you are open minded and not have high expectations when you go. You might be a little disappointed because it’s not clean, but you will have fun. The water has some really good minerals that’s good for your body. Take a whole day to go there
Also plan to go on weekdays like Wednesday because that is when is not that busy. Take lots of water and snacks just to be prepared. There are a lot of naked people. If you go as family just be aware of that... it might be awkward with kids there. Bagby Hot Springs is a popular set of wooden bathhouses nestled in deep national forest of Mount Hood and adjacent to a secluded tributary of the Clackamas River in Oregon.  Through a magical forest you will find an oasis with natural hot springs water that fills logs that were hewn by hand by the locals from the surrounding trees. The hot springs are accessible by paved road all the way to the parking lot for Bagby. It is a 3.4 mile easy hike round trip to the hot springs.  If you park along the road, make sure you are off the fog line; otherwise, you may receive a ticket for obstructing...
Read moreTrailhead had a ton of cars in the parking lot. Trail was so traveled it was mostly ice with melting snow running over top making for very slippery conditions. We made the hike to the hot springs to find that although there are new vault toilets there are no hooks to hang clothes to change and the floors were very wet. People that go up there still don't care about others and someone had decided the toilet was the best place to discard their towel making it unusable as an actual toilet. There were so many people that we after waiting for around an hour and a half with no real wait line established we decided to leave. Very disappointed with people and the abuse of places meant for all. I do see what they are trying to do revamping the hot springs and am happy to donate the $10 charge for my wife and I to soak (without actually getting to soak) in pursuit of a better experience for future users but we probably wont be going back. Best advice I can give is to get there early and if there are quite a few cars don't expect to soak. If there is snow on the way up plan on the trail being ice and take...
Read moreI've only been here a couple of times, and while I didn't have a super good time, I definitely see the potential. Some of our kids are too young to walk the trail to and from Bagby without incurring serious fatigue, and the single outhouse is likewise challenging for little ones. Some of the tubs are in disrepair, and vandalism is everywhere, unfortunately (names and words carved, drawn, and painted on all surfaces, waxy remains of many candles left behind). In the area with 3 or 4 large tubs, only one can be filled at a time, and when it's busy some other visitors have no idea how to share the single hot water source. I like the scenery around the area, but it stinks making the drive and the hike just to find the place full of other people who, deservedly, want to take their time and soak peacefully. I wish I could get a better idea of what weather and time of year makes for the least crowded environs.
Oh right, and there's glitter all over the trail. Part of me wants to frown and say, "Hurm, trash in my nature!" But there's a bigger part of me that screams, "OOOH GLITTER!!" So,...
