Always a pleasure to visit this treasure of a place. The history alone is enticing enough. Whether you are interested in Native American lore, Louis Bromfield and his accomplishments, or the eerie legends surrounding the Ceely Rose murders, there is plenty to be gained by reading up on this historical landmark and visiting it's features. Aside from the history, there are many activities hosted at Malabar Farm such as guided tours, picnic days, barn visits with a small petting area, heritage day festivals and maple syrup festivals, sledding and snowshoeing in the winter, fishing, and loads of trails (both bridle and hiking) that will take you to a small waterfall and some caves. Although I've never attended, I believe there is also a monthly barn dance. Finally, there is Pugh cabin which my family recently rented out for Thanksgiving. The cabin itself was fantastic and hosted a large crowd. A huge fireplace kept the place warm and provided the perfect ambiance. While the outside patio was wet and we were unable to use it, in better conditions it would provide a fire pit and kettle for cooking and several picnic tables. All in all, Malabar Farm is a gem. I'm sure I've left out many amenities and activities, but it is worth the visit.

i rented the Pugh cabin for a day ..... to get rid of stress and spend time with my hubby .... heres the bad: Arrived at cabin, ''NO KEY'' smh ! drove back to the office: to get a key ...went in, explained my dilemma ... the man standing at the end of the counter (doing nothing) was flat out "RUDE" and treated me like a low-class dumb woman, started rattling on, about the process of; renting the Pugh cabin' , to get the key, and how i should of went online etc. etc. reprimanding me, REFUSED to help, flat out did NOT listen to a word i had to said. the other guy sitting at the desk wasn't about to help me either, after explaining my dilemma again, saying; there's NO KEY in the box, i need a key !!! he remarked; ' i can't help i just clean the cabins'. A nice lady from the back office, came out, walked over to the wall and got a key off the key rack! thanks to the lady .... no key + rude men = ..?. this day i planned on getting rid of stress, not adding to it ...back to the Pugh cabin. the SMELL is strong: i would NOT have a wedding or any event here!!! we aired the place out ,used some freshers ... still there's a SMELL ....it made me sick had a bad allergy attack!!! no key+ rude men+ smell= ...? the dirt , dirty bathroom, and ? there was FOOD behind the one sofa .... FOOD ? smh no key+rude men+smell+ Dirt+ FOOD = ? food behind the sofa , .. we had to clean the sofa so i could rest because of my allergy attack/Headache... while resting ? '''BATS''' CAME OUT FROM AROUND THE FRONT FIREPLACE !!! '''WE LEFT'''' so a good point : the cabin is interesting, and the area ... ""I WILL NEVER GO BACK''' ! ! ! !

What a wonderful state park for the whole family. We visited during their yearly festival which was free. A self-guided tour of the home was free. Free tasting of a smoked hog was available for all and there was enough being smoked from the smoke house to be enjoyed by every visitor. The war of 1812 re-enactment was on display with men and women dressed in costume from that time period along with tents they would have used. Some selling what they made others educating the public on the time period. A demonstration of the cannons was very loud. Ear plugs for safety are suggested. Different bands played throughout the day. Arrowheads and other artifacts were displayed and for sale. The Pugh Cabin at Malabar Farms is an added bonus! Trails all around the cabin and dry horse trailer camping. Can spend a whole day hiking trails around the cabin. Be sure to Google the Pugh cabin for interesting history into how Mr. Pugh built it. Have Fun!

We had a great time hiking here, they have about 4 or 5 trails ranging from 1 mile to a seven Mile loop. We had many kids with us and opted for the 1 mile hike on the Shawshank Trail and it was great. I love how they leave trees down and kids of let nature take over, it creates unique obstacles to overcome and provides a great outdoor experience. This trail also had a good sized cave, rough terrain, and a nice bench where you can overlook the forest some. The main visitor center is spotless and has nice bathrooms. It looks very recently remodeled.. there's also a nice little playground and plenty of different picnic table areas to eat. Malabar farm has even more to offer than this, I just wanted to review based on our hiking experience today. This park is exceptional, you can tell they strive to take care of it.

Great place to take your horse to ride ! Trails are great! Only thing I can say bad about this place are two things. If you are riding to go up on the big hill mount Jeez, and you have to cross the road, be extremely cautious because the cars drive really fast through that area. There should be signs or at least crosswalk lines painted on the road. Maybe even make them stop. Also if you’re riding across the base of the hill along the fence, you have to come down over some large boulders, which are extremely slippery and somewhat dangerous! My horse slipped with me. But other than those two things, this place is a really nice place to ride! We still haven’t ridden every trail, somehow we keep missing them. We saw a bald eagle flying over Mount Jerez while we were there. It disappeared when the vultures showed up!
