Read moreVisited here as the snow was melting down and Covid is still around so... planned a whole day trip with two kids, only when I arrived I was quite confused about where to park to see the farm, I was told by someone working at the visitor center that I could visit the working farm but it would be better to drive over. There was nothing going on at the working farm. Then realized there’s a petting zoo after meeting a couple of people who were just as lost as I was ... (I was the one stopping any and all cars within sight, as getting kids in and out of a car, buckling up etc each time was getting tiresome) the petting zoo was right next to the visitor center so we headed back... then it isn’t marked but you can park up by Pugh house to access the Butternut trail, kids were very excited to see the cave... only by the time I realized we took the wrong trail we had gone too far and had to head back through mud with two tired and disappointed kiddos. Silly me took the trail that was right where there was a big sign saying « Butternut trail » but apparently that wasn’t it... (i found out when I crossed the « DD » on the horse trail... so I’ll head back next time, hoping maybe someone thought of making things a little clearer for us out of towners. Everything is so beautiful and so well kept, it’s hard not to want to come back. But there’s one very tired mom here who’s hoping for a...
Read moreAlways a pleasure to visit this treasure of a place. The history alone is enticing enough. Whether you are interested in Native American lore, Louis Bromfield and his accomplishments, or the eerie legends surrounding the Ceely Rose murders, there is plenty to be gained by reading up on this historical landmark and visiting it's features. Aside from the history, there are many activities hosted at Malabar Farm such as guided tours, picnic days, barn visits with a small petting area, heritage day festivals and maple syrup festivals, sledding and snowshoeing in the winter, fishing, and loads of trails (both bridle and hiking) that will take you to a small waterfall and some caves. Although I've never attended, I believe there is also a monthly barn dance. Finally, there is Pugh cabin which my family recently rented out for Thanksgiving. The cabin itself was fantastic and hosted a large crowd. A huge fireplace kept the place warm and provided the perfect ambiance. While the outside patio was wet and we were unable to use it, in better conditions it would provide a fire pit and kettle for cooking and several picnic tables. All in all, Malabar Farm is a gem. I'm sure I've left out many amenities and activities, but it is...
