The trail to the falls has finally reopened!! Reservations needed on the weekends via the city website
The trails are beautiful and they’ve done an incredible job restoring everything from the Bobcat Fire! The new trails to the falls are pretty narrow in most places with loose dirt and fine gravel - they’re well maintained but I highly recommend hiking shoes with decent tread. People in regular running shoes were slipping and almost falls on the steeper sections. I’d even go so far as to say use poles if you’re prone to slipping.
From the new ranger station, it’s 1.5 miles to the falls (one way). From the middle trailhead it’s about a mile to the falls (one way), and from the upper trailhead by the nature center it’s 3/4 mile to the falls (one way) and there’s a decent amount of elevation gain - 450 feet gain from the middle trailhead.
At the upper trailhead there are bbq grills, picnic tables, and benches under the giant oaks. There are also more benches and picnic tables scattered throughout the park. The recovery from the Bobcat Fire is truly remarkable- so much regrowth has occurred!
They have paved parking available in several lots spread throughout this the park. It’s normally $5 on weekdays and $6 on weekends. But at the moment it’s free for a little bit bc of the grand reopening. There’s also free street parking outside the entrance but be sure to watch the signs bc some is permit only and some is regulated for street sweeping on certain days and they will ticket you. It’s also a residential area so please be respectful.
The city has done a beautiful job on the restoration and it’s so fantastic to be back on this beloved...
Read moreI’ve been using the AllTrails app for a new hike and it led me to this one. Although the waterfall was not what i expected (small stream) I enjoyed the hike. There was a lot of insects flying around it did get a little annoying but never the less made the trip horrible just every once in a while i would scare them of with my cap. I did end up hiking the truck trail which theres a circuit and lucky for me thats when all those flys went away and you literally find yourself in the mountain the trail goes along a river. Along the road i came across signs telling a description about the land, which i found pretty interesting. I did went up there with my dog so I was in a few occasions worried about any bears or mountain lions since we were the only ones on the trail, but didn’t encounter any(sighs). Both trails, the water fall & truck trail was a total of 7 miles, good hike, i was glad their was hardly any graffiti and plenty off parking space, $5 on a weekday. Will be back soon, the dam looked cool, even though I’m afraid of heights. Hiking really has helped me with my anxiety and fears, wear your fav shoes/boots and...
Read moreEasy hike to beautiful falls. Watch for snakes as the fires have probably driven them down to a lower altitude and it's warmer now so just be careful to pay attention. Please don't annoy the other creatures, they are wild animals, anxious about the fires, just like the rest of us. Please trash and place in 🗑️. Even if the trash is not yours, our forests are having a bad time right now so it's really important that we help in any way we can heal. Great field trip for your school aged kids and the opportunity to teach our future grown-ups some interesting science lab hands on identification of plants and collection techniques on H2O samples for Microscope skill building and habitat exploring. All while protecting...
