I recently tackled Beehive Basin Trailhead, and it was honestly an incredible experience. The trail isn’t super easy, but it’s not overwhelming either—perfect for those looking for a solid workout with some payoff. The views from the top are absolutely worth every step, and the whole journey offers some amazing scenery along the way.
It took me about 3 to 4 hours round trip to reach the summit and get back down, which felt like just the right amount of time for the challenge. The trail itself is well-marked and manageable, with a few steeper sections that’ll definitely get your heart rate up, but nothing that feels too intense.
The final payoff when you reach the top is just breathtaking. The panoramic views stretch out as far as the eye can see, with mountains, valleys, and forests all blending together. It’s the kind of hike that leaves you feeling accomplished and rejuvenated, and definitely worth the time spent on the trail.
If you're up for a good workout with a stellar reward, I’d highly...
Read moreParts of the trail are slippery and icy. Highly recommend wearing ice grippers. We didn't have them and two of us slipped on ice going up and one slipped on the way back down. The trail steadily elevates (which I knew beforehand), but I'm not used to the elevation at all, so getting enough oxygen was the limiting factor. Don't forget to take that into consideration when deciding whether to go on this trail if that is a factor for you as well. We got halfway through before we turned around. The way back was easier, but more dangerous because of the icy areas. Probably won't be that much of a problem for those that hike outdoors in this type of weather regularly, but if you don't, this is another thing to keep in mind. Views are very nice though. We also saw bear tracks, so don't forget your bear spray...
Read moreThis was a fine hike, but I would not include it in my list of must-do hikes in Big Sky. The meadows were very pretty and it did have nice, expansive views of the mountain and valleys below. I'd recommend Lava Lake or Storm Castle over this hike; it may depend on what kind of hike you're looking for though.
Lots of people post warning about bears or moose, but we did not see signs of either. This is definitely a well-traveled hike - we saw plenty of people and plenty of dogs! I think they keep the scary wildlife at bay.
We chose this hike mostly out of convenience (it's ~10 minutes from...
