It's exactly what the name says - a prairie dog town. If you want to watch a prairie dogs and learn about how they live, this is the place to do both. It is located just off of the highway - look for the information kiosk near the entrance. As you drive into the park, watch for prairie dogs crossing the driveway to get back to their dens. If you roll down your windows you will likely hear them barking a warning to one another. I recommend parking and then quietly walking the circular portion of the driveway. I don’t do reviews much, but people need to know about this, we really love it, and it would be a shame to go flying on by when it’s so easy to check out. Even if you’re in a big old rush, it’s one minute off the interstate, five minutes to watch a pile of sociable prairie dogs chirping around doing their thing. A neat little prairie dog town in a compact well kept state park without any major facilities. On the other side of the interstate is a fishing pull off on the Yellowstone river with a clean outhouse.
So this makes a super place to blow some steam, to stretch legs, to learn about prairie dogs, and to be amused by these cute little creatures. We did quite a bit of giggling as we observed them playing.
