Back in 1990 I was introduced to an unforgettable place called Rocky Mountain Hi Ski Area, now known as Teton Pass ski Area, approximately 34 miles West of Choteau, Montana. Heading west towards the Rocky Mountain front from Choteau you travel through the plains and foothills till you come to the base of the Rocky Mountain Front where Ponderosa Pine and Birch greet you. The North Fork Road also named Teton canyon Road, takes you through scenery that takes the breath away. You will follow the North Fork Teton River on three fourths of the journey as you gradually make the climb to the ski area. With several bends in the road you soon come across the ski area on the left. The backdrop of Granite mountains certainly catch the eye. I remember it being somewhat slow that Saturday morning with only a few cars in the lot. With fresh fallen powder on the trails that morning I knew I was in for a treat. I bought my lift ticket for $10 and was transported on the double chair lift to the top of the main run. The scenery was amazing at the top of the mountain as I gazed over miles of pine trees and rocky tipped mountains. I soon took off down the main run, and for hours after that, I was hooked to this place. I ended up becoming a regular during the 1990 & 1991 ski seasons and even donated some of my art to the ski area. I always said that I would come back to this place I fell in Love with, but since moving to the east coast, its been 23 years since I have laid eyes on my Friend formerly known as Rocky Mountain...

I was super impressed by this little cute Mountain! The vibe was extremely friendly and the powder was amazing. There isn't a whole lot of runs and only one chair lift but as a moderate snowboarder I didn't need much. I would say if you are an expert skier or snowboarder, this mountain could get a little boring pretty quick if you go all the time. But the friendly atmosphere and awesome staff made this mountain one of my favorites in Montana. Which is saying a lot because I grew up in Whitefish on Big Mountain and I've been to almost every ski resort in Montana. I will definitely be...

When you come to this hill, everyone is your friend. The bartender is your friend. The owner is your friend. The other skiers are your friends. Lift lines are always short. Food is great. Lift prices are affordable. They have a magic carpet for beginners. Rentals and lessons available. Expert terrain is limited, and conditions on the eastern front can change quickly, but for the price, there’s not much to lose. I’m a big fan...
