This place was a real surprised. My dad suggested we go, and I wasn't expecting much. There were many old military vehicles there, mostly Jeeps. Mark gave us a tour, and he knew more about the history of the Jeep than I thought humanly possible. He was so friendly in giving my family a tour, and was very interesting to listen to. He really made the history of military vehicles come alive. It is obvious that he and the other caretakers of this museum are passionate about preserving this piece of history. They are expanding their displays and trying to improve an already fun experience. It is free to the public, with a donation box (which I was happy to contribute). It is a great rainy day activity if you are in the Sewanee or Monteagle area. I...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible museum of military history located in Monteagle, TN, just a stone’s throw away from The University of the South (Sewanee). The collection is massive, the attention to detail and restoration work is top notch, and the volunteer staff give a warm southern welcome to all their visitors. I have been to probably two dozen military museums across the world and this stands up to all those in terms of variety, restoration work and historical accuracy. Highly recommend to any history buff, especially those interested in military or American history. I brought both of my small children and they were very interested in all the exhibits. This is truly...
Read moreThis museum is breathtaking. It has two huge rooms filled with all manner of military vehicles from horse drawn wagons and ammunition carts to Jeeps, tanks, armored personnel carriers, and field ambulances. They also have smaller military items and an inflatable helicopter that was used to trick enemy forces. Personalized, guided tours are provided by very knowledgeable guides who are usually members of the Museum’s Board of Directors personally appointed by the late Mr Werner who started the collection. We went with my three-year-old son and 73-year-old father-in-law and we all loved it! This...
