It's a small unassuming cabin built in the 1851, and is full of memorabilia from Point Lobos' storied past as a whaling station, abalone cannery, WII training area, and more. The docents here are really friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the area. There's an accessible entrance too though you'll have to wheel over a small dirt hill.
The cabin overlooks a cove that's a popular diving spot where permits are required; only 30 are granted a day to the underwater preserve. There's a surprisingly clean bathroom at the parking lot too. The view of the ocean and the surrounding is great as well from here. There's a nice Cypress tree right behind the museum with a very unusual shape as well.
