If you’ve never been here you simply have to go! We live in Ohio and are back in Sweet Home Alabama visiting family. We searched online for a fireworks display and our search led us to The American Village. We went a little early and enjoyed seeing the campus and tasting the delights of the food trucks:). Our family of 6 thought it awesome that there were seats if you didn’t bring one or a blanket, picnics are allowed, and staff and volunteers were not only friendly but smiling and seemingly loving their roles! This isn’t your ordinary history museum and the fireworks display was definitely not typical. My husband is a retired Army Captain with 22 years in service. We have visited many places and viewed many fireworks displays including ones on military posts. None have even come close to what we experienced last night! My favorite parts, the parts that gave me chills and made tears flow, was seeing the colors presented correctly, the heartfelt gratitude of The American Village staff towards Those who serve, and the accurate depiction of our historical relevance. Thank you American Village for making our Independence Day Celebration not only the best yet, but also helping us to reflect on just how wonderful it is to be an...

THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN AMERICA!!! This place is a must see, it is absolutely amazing, the role players are amazing, you truly feel like you have stepped back in time, it is a full immersive experience! Such an amazingly fun way to learn and experience history! The tulip festival time is beautiful and anytime is beautiful to go! So glad they are open Saturdays in the summer! If you live nearby or are driving through AL for any reason this is a MUST DO! Pack lunch or eat on the way because they don't serve food here but you can bring picnic lunch, and be sure to check the hours as well because they are not always open on every Saturday, but it is great when they are. Going on Presidents Day was a fantastic experience as well, nothing like getting to eat cupcakes with George Washington!!! The replica architecture is amazing it is really an incredible place to visit! You will want to spend the whole time there if you can and go to as many demonstrations as you can! Our kids LOVED the colonial soldier training! Just so fantastic...

It was $5 per person to get in for the fireworks show. We showed up at about 6:30pm. It was so much fun seeing the fireworks show. My toddler loved seeing the fireworks. We enjoyed walking around the grounds before the show. We walked into the Veterans memorial building, it's very beautiful inside and a nice tribute for the men and women who have lost their lives for our country. It was fun seeing actors in their costumes in the village. There is a replica of the liberty bell and Independence Hall. For the 4th of July show they had food trucks which we purchased the lemonade and fire roasted corn on the cob. Most of the food trucks had QR codes you could use to make your purchases which was helpful as we don't usually carry cash. The gift shop is cute with some books, memorabilia and wooden toys. We purchased a wooden helicopter for our toddler for $6 which I thought was a great price for the size of the toy. We would love to go in the fall and see the sights and learn about the 1700s and not...

Visited the American Village today on a field trip with my son and his 6th grade class. I went expecting a replica town from the revolutionary war period with lots of reading facts and looking at pictures. What we experienced was a whole crew of talented reenactors who were in character whether working their area, or just meeting them on the sidewalk. We started the day in a town meeting at the Colonial Chapel, then had a lively meeting of the Virginia Convention at the Courthouse. From there, we learned about musket guns and that it required at least two teeth, preferably one on top and one on bottom, to open the packet of gunpowder. The person working the musket station was a crowd favorite among the kids and the adults! We learned about the use of secret coding and messaging among the patriots, Paul Revere’s midnight ride, and so much more! If you get a chance to go, I recommend 10 out of 10 🌟!

Such an amazing center that gets us to think what our life will be like in the 18th century! I’m able to see the specific challenges and struggles of various different social groups at the historical time period. I love the 10:30am session where clothing in 18th century was discussed, 11am session where medicinal herbs was taught, 11:30am session where continual Army was acted out, and 12:30pm Liberty was discussed in Massachusetts. Bravo to all these characters! Their professionalism allowed me to fully immerse myself in the scenarios, and I’m very grateful and happy about this experience.
