Love the park and it was great until we had others camping in our group area. I went to the visitors info area and ask them about it. It seems it was a trail cleanup weekend for bicycle enthusiast. Free camping in exchange for trail clean up. When they were coming in they were telling them to camp anywhere in "e" section. E-section is pretty big and our group area was part of "E" section. Pretty ticked off that I spent $400 so our group could have a private group camp but instead got invaded by complete strangers. One of the perks of having a group camp is having the restroom facilities all to ourselves. That didn't happen, every time we turn around our ladies room was completely trashed. Of course every time we cleaned it up. We had trucks flying through our camping area like it was a raceway. One even told me b** get out of the road as I was walking to the pavilion. When I reserved the group camp 5 months prior they told me if I ended up not having the 50 people that I could call and get a refund if it was minimum 2 weeks prior to our date. Call to get a refund 3 weeks prior they said no sorry. I think it is pretty bad that they were telling others to camp in an area that they couldn't give me a refund for. The area I paid $400 bucks for. Yes I complained at the information desk as well as spoke with the camp host about it. I will never again stay at...
Read moreThe Big South Fork is a amazing place the scenery is absolutely beautiful. The terrain is rough and unforgiving in places. Steep shear cliffs adorn the valley’s which the rivers have carved their way throughout these rugged mountains of the Cumberland Plateau and the Big South Fork. The trails will challenge you but you will be awarded with amazing views of various landscapes from water falls to sandstone arches. The landscape changes from trail to trail the Wild magnolia grow densely throughout the park lining your path. As you venture to another area of the park as you start your journey down the trail it looks like as we were transported to Oregon or Washington as the landscape is over grown with green moss and towering pines trees the pine needles cover the floor of the forest the sunlight rays peaking through the dense canopy highlighting rock formations, arches or a small brook as the water runs carefully over the rocks. You get a glimpse of sparkles from the sunrise as it bounces of the water.
The park has a lot of history the time you spend here will open your imagination as you adventure the different areas of the 125000 acres going After Another Adventure will...
Read moreWe visited Yahoo Falls (KY side) a few weeks ago and we visited Honey Creek Loop (TN side) yesterday. Yahoo Falls is a pretty easy trail other than a set of steps, you can do the loop and add some mileage if you have time. Yahoo Falls is the tallest waterfall in KY and it is very pretty. Honey Creek Loop is a BEAUTIFUL and unique trail. A little less than 6 miles (if you don’t get lost) and it takes at least 5-6 hours to complete it. The trail is marked pretty good on each end, but not so much in the middle. So, my advice is in the middle of the trail is to stay along the creek until you find trail markers again. You have to hike the creek bed in areas and cross the creek many times. There are numerous waterfalls, rock houses and caves. There are several areas of climbing up and down hills/mountains. Also, there are a couple areas where you have to use a rope (already secured and in place) to scale a rock face about ten feet. Honey Creek Loop is truly a majestic place, but do realize you need to be a fairly experienced hiker to complete this trail. Great trail, have fun and bring plenty...
