First time staying here in our 18' travel trailer. Weren't sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. Campers & staff were very friendly. Bathhouse was clean. Heck, even the outhouses were cleaned and smelled fresh! We got lucky that our site was level as there were some that weren't. Our site was wider than it was deep, with beautiful pine trees along the back of it. Some sites are smaller than others and trees on the sites can make backing in slightly more challenging. There is a campground beach that's very nice, and a Day Beach on the other side of the lake that is smaller, but also nice. Each end of the lake had a boat launch. Kayaks & canoes can be rented alongside the campground beach. Dogs can swim in the lake as long as they are outside of either of the swim areas. Several campers had ATV's on their site, but they didn't rev them and drove to and from their site respectfully. Both nights we were there, it was quiet by 10 or 11 p.m. Cell service wasn't great, but we were able to send and receive text messages and Facebook messages. The only negative here was lack of a playground for the kids at the campground. All they had was a slide. The State Forest campgrounds in the area are also very scenic, so drive through and check them out also! We'll be back to Clear Lake next...
Read moreWe have a camper and occasionally camp at state parks. I was in the area today for work and pulled in to check out the campsites and the lake. When I pulled up to the office the lady asked if I had reservations. I explained to her I was in the area for work and I wasn't looking for a site today just wanted to drive through the campground and check it out and leave. I was told NO, that they were to full. I again explained to her that I wasn't staying or looking for a site today, I just wanted to do a drive through and see what the sites were like and see what the lake looked like from the sites. She again insisted that I couldn't do this because they were about full. I have never heard of such a thing!! Not, you can only walk in. Not, I can give you a visitor pass to allow you to drive through the campground. Not, we have a capacity limit posted for this outdoor campground and we have exceeded that limit...which would have been ridiculous. Just I cant go in. I have stopped into at least 6 state park campgrounds to do just this in the last year and never have been denied entrance. I am a michigan citizen and have been my whole life. I pay taxes in this state. I pay to have park passes on all our vehicles for what I thought gave us the right to access these state parks. Evidently Not. Do...
Read moreWe camped here this past week and it was a very good experience. Sites are larger and in our loop it was very quiet. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Camp host was great, thanks Steve. :-) The day use is a a gaunt by car as its on other side of the lake but the campground had it's own beach and swimming area. If you like to ORV, this is the place to stay. Our only two issues and they were minor was not much for a bike to use except the campground loops. Not like Aloha up the road on the rail/trail. Second was lack of a store. We like to get stickers for our camper and t shirts and neither here. They did have coffee mugs and magnets for sale at check in station. Oh, I forgot, the cell service is amazing! 5G the entire time so if you wanted to stream a movie you could. So if you like quiet camp with big sites, out in the middle of nowhere then this is the...
