We recently visited the museum July of 24 on our way to spend time in the San Juan's. While visiting the museum we stood behind a young lady sitting with what I presume was her father. They most likely where Utes. During the video the young lady began sobbing. Shortly there after I began to sob. I wanted to console her, but really, what do you say? I felt awful. One the most powerful and emotional moments of my 62 years. After finishing up inside we made our way outside to pay our respects to Chipeta, Chief Ourays wife. I was unable to gather myself until we were several miles up the road. I've always had an unexplainable deep feeling of connection to Native Americans and this experience caught me completely off guard. I will never get over nor come to terms with what happed and is still happening to Native Americans. I can't even imagine......any of it. I feel shame, embarrassment and rage toward the "leaders" who did what they did to these...

Had not been here in many years, we were quite surprised at the upgrade in the facility and collection. This is a must stop for Montrose, an excellent small museum to learn the history and culture of the Ute Indians. Allow one or two hours of time to view the extensive exhibits displaying the history of the area. Then take a walk outside for more history on a walk through the grounds. We were there in February, slow time of year, never felt rushed sitting down and watching all the multi media presentations. It's just $6 admission to experience a rich cultural adventure into the life and history of the UTE tribes. There's also a nice gift shop with beautiful jewelry at reasonable prices. We visited on...

This inside is a little smaller than i remember and you have to really read it. In order to enjoy the exhibits... they need more artifacts out less technology.... loved the music playing it sets the mood. And the bathrooms were clean. Plus the remodel is pretty great. I would like to see more things in the gardens. And perhaps. More anout the Utes and natives that lived in the region. It was an overall great experience the atmosphere was like being at the campfire ready for the elders to tell a story. Wish i could have spent...

I walk with the dog here in the mornings. Its quiet and peaceful. There is a wooden walkway that leads to the Uncompahgre River. I've spotted cranes, geese and ducks on the river. Lots of people like to start river trips from this spot. On the other side of the road is the museum. The architecture is interesting and the museum has informative displays. Children enjoy exploring the many yurts built on the grounds. There is a trail beyond the grounds that lead to Riverbottom and Cerise Park.

Good effort to present the history and life of the Indians. However, not much awareness of the duress these people endured during the western occupation by the colons. Also, the exhibit is quite crowded, thus a bit confusing. A path with more chronological order would benefit to clarity. But overall it is to be recommended to visit, and see the outside exhibit as well.

A gem of a museum. This museum was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. Excellent text and a film described the history of the Ute. I particularly was interested to see an example of a resin coated basket. They have some beautiful clothing on display. There is also an excellent gift store
