The Caddo Lake Drawbridge in Mooringsport, Louisiana, built in 1914, stands as one of the state’s most unique and cherished landmarks. Originally designed as a vertical-lift bridge to let tall oil-field equipment pass beneath during the height of Caddo Lake’s oil-boom era, it served as both a vital roadway and a gateway for industry. Though its lift mechanism was decommissioned by the 1940s, the bridge remained an important crossing until traffic outgrew its narrow frame. When plans were made to demolish it in the late 1980s, local residents fought to preserve its history, ultimately saving it and transforming it into a pedestrian landmark. Today, the old drawbridge — now listed on the National Register of Historic Places — stands quietly over Caddo Lake, holding a century of stories from industry, community, and the ever-changing rhythm of Mooringsport. #caddolake #louisiana

The Caddo Lake drawbridge stands quietly against a soft, fading sky, its weathered steel frame stretching across calm water like a doorway between past and present. Rust-streaked supports rise from the lake, mirrored perfectly in the glassy surface below, where gentle ripples barely disturb the reflection. The warm hues of sunset cast a peaceful glow over the bridge and surrounding wetlands, while tall grasses frame the shoreline, adding to the stillness. It’s a scene that feels timeless—industrial history resting gently within the natural beauty and quiet mystery of Caddo Lake.#caddolake #louisiana #photography

This 100 year old drawbridge used to open up ....come and stand and walk in the steps of the Caddo Indians.....and this amazing bridge's ...

BEAUTIFUL. Very historic, the drawbridge amazing, as I've never seen anything like it. PEOPLE NEED TO RESPECT areas like this AND PICK UP THE TRASH THEY LEAVE!!! I found it to be amazing. I sent a picture to Cheyenne, WY to a family member. They say the drawbridge photo I took SHOULD BE A POSTCARD...Such a neat experience !!! That's some of what I moved...

Its pretty amazing that after 102 years this historical site is still around after all the storms and weather. It really tells how well things were built back in 1914. I drove 25 miles north of Boosier City just to view this place in history. There is not much here left to see here than a few local fisherman casting their reals over the edge to catch...
