Beautiful park. Loved seeing the ladybugs and the Redwoods. Really pretty and very quiet (mostly).
My one complaint, though, is people who do not follow the dog leash law. I saw so many people with dogs off leash (many people just ignoring their dogs and letting them wander into protected areas they are not supposed to be in and randomly going up to other people and dogs). I almost tripped on a few dogs that were a bit too friendly and hyperactive. If you bring your dog, PLEASE respect the leash law and other people (and their dogs that are leashed). It's for the dog's own safety and to protect the beautiful nature and wildlife here. It was really disappointing and upsetting seeing so many irresponsible people clearly not following rules and just allowing their dogs free reign of the park. Take your dogs somewhere else if you want them off-leash (like a dog park). The lack of respect and irresponsibility of some people is appalling.
Coming back from our hike, we saw one ranger tell a snooty woman (with dog off-leash) to put her dog on a leash due to park regulations and she pretty much just ignored him. So the rangers are trying, at least, and I won't knock off a star for this beautiful place due to other people's self-centeredness.
Other than that, I loved this place and will be back (hopefully with less rude and irresponsible...
Read moreI don't think I can sum up how amazing my experience to me was cat this place. I only had 2 hours to spend there and it made my trip! The trees were HUGE! I walked the Stream Trail all the way to the spot with the lady bug mating area. The ladybugs fathered in the bunches like that was very cool to see! Something that I can't explain how cool it was to experience was how AMAZING IT SMELLED my entire hike. The forest gives off this intense smell that smells so good! It literally smelled like someone taped a dryer sheet call mountain forest to my nose. I was taking in huge breaths through my nose because I couldn't believe I was smelling something this fragrant outside. Once you get there you'll understand what I mean. Trust me I'm not crazy! Lol. I also seen a big California Newt walking accros the path. I thought that was cool to see! Whilst walking through the large Redwood trees towering over you I couldn't help but feel how powerful their presence was. It makes you think wow these gave been here so long and seen so much! We're literally so insignificant compared to them. In conclusion this is a awesome place to that would not disappoint you...
Read moreWe did the Dunn, Golden Spike, Tate, West Ridge, Orchard, Bridle, Stream, Tres Senda, Star Flower, Madrone, Graham trails loop. Which is rated Hard on Alltrails. We parked at the Trudeau Center Parking. We started the hike right about 7am right after we took a few beautiful pictures of the sunrise! The earlier the better to start because it starts to get hot mid morning....although most of the trail is shaded but still quite warm. I would have to rate it moderate, not quite hard but my husband and I hike a lot and we normally hike trails that are rated hard so this didn't seem as hard as the ones that we have done. This is such a beautiful trail. The redwoods are just serene along the trail. We actually finished the hike @ 8.5 miles a little over 3 hrs with all the picture taking we did. Easy peasy in the beginning of the hike but after mile 5 where the picnic area is located (Old Church), your incline starts then there is a series of declines and inclines that follow. As always, don't forget your fluids! We would definitely do...
