Regarding review below: I've got a response to my email to director of Carteret Parks and Recreation:
Hello and thank you for this informative email. The situation you’re describing certainly does not met our standards for County Parks and Recreation property. I’ll definitely pass this along to our public works department that is charged with staffing public access locations. You are exactly correct … our coast line should never be polluted by trash and I appreciate you trying to do your part in protecting it. Again – THANK YOU for letting us know of this situation and we’ll do our part to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.
I went there today June 4th, 2017. Got there around 3 PM. Place was packed and the trash cans were already full of bottles, cans, umbrellas, trash (no recycling bins). Got in bathroom to change and there was one stall and the place was full of toilet paper on the floor. The stench was awful. Got in beach area and there was trash everywhere since the only trash bin there was already full. There were plastic bottles, aluminum cans and cigarette butts. I was "lucky" to find a discarded plastic bag that I used to collect some trash that was getting in the pristine Crystal Coast. Two hours later as I was leaving , I saw the beach trash bin was empty because it was turned upside down! so now there was trash everywhere a few feet from the water. I told visitor center person as I was leaving about this disaster and she said she as going to tell DOT. I am not going back. I will be paying for ferry to go to Cape Lookout barrier islands or just go to...
Read moreWanted a beach without alot of waves, so we stopped here.
We won't be going back. I was going to change in the bathroom, but it was hands down the worst I have ever seen. Only 2 stalls, and it wasn't just the wet sand on the floor. Both toilets were full and seats were soiled. Toilet paper all over the bathroom. I know it's hard to keep public areas like this clean, but there's no way you could use the bathroom here...good luck holding it to the next stop. We went on to the beach, and the sand itself is clean, even with dogs on the beach, and there is no shelling. The water gets deep very quickly, and as there were quite a few people fishing in-between swimmers, it didn't feel safe or inviting at all. We stayed maybe 20 minutes and left, as did a vehicle that parked beside us as we were also just parking.
To summit up, this needs to be a fishing only beach. Not a good swimming area due to extreme dirty facilities, and the boats...
Read moreFriendly locals who regular here, clean but if your allergic to Iron metals or any medals (natural) in the sand, it may make you itch. Heavy mineral sand, feels like kinetic sand that kids play with from the kids toy isle, but it's totally natural minerals as far as I know, seems clean & normal considering the marine life here is extremely healthy. Bring a new for sure because we had caught even octopus before, so be prepared to catch & release without harm. Bring your own beach chair, no picnic area that I saw, but relaxing to set up a chair and even a table, but you will have to bring your own on the beach. There is a trail as well, with wash area w/ bathrooms...
