One of my favorite local parks since I was a child. When my siblings and I were young children, our dad would gather us for a hike, at the "tank field" which is now White Park. White Park used to house huge oil tanks, some of which were still there when I was a child. We used to joke that whichever child had the newest "tennis shoes" would manage to accidentally step into an oily sludge. As you walk through White Park today you can still see some of the round containment berms that helped to contain some oil leakage from the tanks. A lot of lost history. This was an important storage facility and tied into the Eureka Pipeline. I can remember my parents and uncle talking about one of the tanks burning after being struck by lightning. I've often thought the water reservoir was probably the site of an old grist mill, but have never found any written history. At one of the roads leading to the park is a house with several stone grist mill wheels. I could go on with my history, but I'll leave it as White Park is a great place to walk or bike, especially with a group of friends, as the main path through the...
Read moreWe explore a lot, and this park did not meet the expectations we had for it by looking at photos and hearing about it. I believe it is nice for a small walk or jog, the trail is wide, but there are many turn offs, one of which leads down to the watetfall, which was the best part of the park. I think it is nice for a small stroll. Also right next to roads, which you can hear vehicles the entire time.
The pros: -Very clean portable potty -Wide trail -Dog friendly -One waterfall -Good for small stroll/jog
The cons: -No information on any trails, poorly marked out -Not a large trail to take a long hike on -There were tons of people at the one waterfall, and they were swimming in the water near it, made it very undelightful and they were loud and drinking -Nearby roadway noise
This park is not one I will be revisiting, just not the type of park I personally like, but it is still a nice little park which someone can...
Read moreNice city park in Morgantown. If you’re in search of the waterfall, it appears to be along Cobun Creek just below the dam of Cobun Reservoir, but there are no markings. AllTrails has decent trail maps, but just past the dam overlook platform there is a trail which drops steeply down the hillside, where the spillway and waterfalls are visible. As of July 2023, the area is under construction and cordoned off, and the flow of water stopped, so there is no waterfall. I am unsure of future plans...
