We had an amazing day hiking the Mt. Falcon Lookout Trail at the west trailhead. The trail is just outside of Morrison, Colorado, and offers a mix of rocky paths and shady forest areas, making it perfect for both hikers and their furry friends.
With an elevation gain of about 2,000 feet, it’s a good workout for both humans and dogs. The views from the top are absolutely stunning – you can see all the way to downtown Denver and even the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
The weather was sunny and hot during our visit, so make sure to bring plenty of water for yourself and your pups. There are plenty of spots to take breaks and keep everyone hydrated. We spotted some beautiful butterflies, like the Colorado Hairstreak and the Western Tiger Swallowtail, which added a magical touch to our hike.
Overall, it was a fantastic trail with beautiful scenery and well-maintained paths. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a day outdoors...
Read moreI have been going to the West Trailhead for more than 10 years! It is one of the best family hiking areas that I have found. Well kept, Well Patrolled!
It has a wide range of trails from beginner family trails for those with small children to extremely challenging trails sure to work up a sweat and challenge the skill set of the avid.
Be careful and know the trail your taking or you could find yourself crawling over, under, and through spectacular terrain.
A place where you can let your kiddos wander and explore how they want under you watchful eye. No, No's needed. Follow while they lead, explore what interest them. Guide by suggestion direction, look at that, can we climb that, what do you hear? It's over...
Read more2 free parking lots, always find a spot there. Park actually closes 1 hour after sunset like all other JEFFCO parks even though there are no actual gates. West parking lot is at the top of the mountain. You can hike around the top for pretty views. Castle ruins are probably 10-15 minutes walk away. All on the top level. I do not recommend starting the mountain hike or bike at this end. I recommend you Start at East parking lot so that you go uphill for the first half and downhille on your return trip. East parking lot is around same elevation as Denver probably 1500ft lower than this parking lot. Also, I have seen plenty of deers...
