These trails are some of the best around! From the trail head and further into the trail you have multiple choices for shorter or longer loops. There is a main 3 mile and 6 mile loop along with other trails. I did the 3 mile loop which was really fun even though it was 25°. Lots of Ups and Downs on this trail so expect to be using quite a bit of energy on this hike. Dry Falls was the opposite of dry when I was there. It was pouring and was a really nice spot to take a break on the bench overlooking the lake and falls.

Definitely would hike again and again and even in the winter there was a fair bit of wildlife and stuff to look at. If you are in the area don't...

Hiked it counterclockwise after the first snow, saving the "best" for last, a break at the Dry Falls. Loved this hike, roughly six miles of varied terrain. Only one other set of (human) footprints out there. The North/East end of Bass Lake at Lower Lake was sweet! Nice campsites between the two lakes and on the creek. Will want to camp there this summer! We took lots of breaks to enjoy the scene, so about four hours on the loop, but could have easily done it in...

Gorgeous! We took our dog, 1, 3, 5 and 7yos around Lower & Dry Lakes. It was near 4 miles and took us about 3 hours (and we wore the youngest two for most of the time). There were rocky and more challenging portions, I would call this a moderately challenging trek. Lush natural surroundings, a few great lake views from cliffs, and a waterfall. Know that the restroom shown on the trail map is a toilet (laterine only) with no privacy walls, this threw our...

Best hiking on the North Shore🍁🥾⤵️ Minnesota’s North Shore is easily one of the prettiest fall color hiking destinations! Falls colors peak between the end of September and beginning of October, making it an early season treat. Nearer to Lake Superior, the comparatively warmer air around the great lake can delay fall colors by a week compared to surrounding areas. Keep this in mind with trip planning! Here are some of my favorite fall hikes on the North Shore… 1- 🌈Tettegouche State Park Miles on miles of hiking trails with everything from easy to difficult options. Features open water views, sea cliffs, waterfalls, and spectacular fall foliage overlooks 2- 🏔Bass Lake Loop A long hike in Ely, MN featuring a few overlooks and a swimmable waterfall 3- 🥾Day Hill in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park An easy hike in a popular state park with a beautiful overlook of the shoreline on Lake Superior from above. Despite the parks popularity, most hikers don’t bother with this summit! 4- 🛶The Border Route Trail A difficult, 65-mile thru hiking trail through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness. Permits are required and backpacking experience including topographical map reading is strongly recommended. 5- 🌅Pincushion Mountain A beautiful, flat trail out to an overlook in Grand Marais, Minnesota. This trailhead is also home to excellent fall mountain biking routes! For a list of some of my favorite off-the-beaten path fall hikes (including ALL pictured above!) visit my link in bio and hit “midwest adventure ebooks”! 📍Land stolen from Anishinaabe #northshoremn #minnesota #hiking #fall
