I've been here probably a dozen times by now and every time I discover something new. There's just so much to explore that you can never run out of things to do. Out of all the parks/wildlife areas in KS this is definitely one of the best and surprisingly beautiful.

Nice paved trail through prairie tallgrass and woods. Saw lots of birds in the woods. Peaceful, and quiet with benches.

Hello, I just wanted to share a feedback here. My wife, our dog, and I were on the unmarked trail by Vernon and E 1250 St a few days ago (August 28, 2023), we must have hit a tick nest because there were thousands of tiny ticks swarming, crawling, and biting on the 3 of us. We are hoping to share this tick warning here, so that the others can be well prepared...

I did field work at this beautiful refuge during the summer of 2019. The staff were all very friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this refuge as both a place to work...
