Over the past 10 years, my family and I have regularly visited Mt. Shasta Ski Park, and for the most part, it has been a pleasant experience with respectful staff. However, on December 26th, we were met with outright hostility and aggression that completely crossed the line.
We arrived with two totes of clothing to change into at the lodge, something we’ve done before without issue. As we began walking up the stairs, we were abruptly stopped by a staff member who, in a rude and threatening tone, said, “I don’t know where you think you’re going with those, but it’s not here.” He demanded to know what was in the totes and barked at us to go to the downstairs lodge immediately if we wanted to change. His approach was unprofessional and condescending, treating us as if we were breaking rules on purpose.
We complied, heading downstairs, and decided to take the totes back to the truck to avoid further issues. On our way out, we encountered another staff member who, without even trying to understand the situation, snapped, “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but you are not going upstairs.” Despite our calm and respectful demeanor, we were treated like troublemakers trying to defy policy. We explained—repeatedly—that we were simply heading to the truck, yet he ignored us and continued to escalate the situation, accusing us of violating rules we weren’t even trying to break.
After taking the totes to the truck, I waited inside the lodge for my husband, who was in the restroom. While standing there alone, I noticed the same staff member rallying three other employees, glaring at me in a way that felt undeniably threatening and intimidating, as though I were being targeted for simply existing in the space. This behavior went beyond rude—it was unprofessional and felt like an attempt to provoke or intimidate.
This experience left us shocked and disappointed. We have spent thousands of dollars at this ski park over the years, and to be treated like criminals by staff with a prison-guard mentality is unacceptable. The culture of Mt. Shasta Ski Park has turned bitter, and the hostility we experienced from these employees reflects poorly on the management and overall operation of the park. If this is how loyal customers are treated, I can assure you that we will reconsider where we spend our time and money...
Read moreIt's a fun scrappy resort offering a good variety of terrain for mostly beginner and intermediate skiers. The advanced terrain is a bit flat, but some of the black diamond runs are decent when ground and weather conditions are right. The lodge facilities are somewhat limited, but fine for a quick family lunch thing to keep the kids happy. Two small food service counters offer pretty tasty and generous food portions, but it does not run a typical grab and go cafeteria operation- so it can get somewhat overwhelmed during busy times. The bar is well stocked but with fairly limited seating. All the staff I encountered were outstanding and friendly. The chairlifts are a bit run down and outdated, but generally get the job done. I'd like to see a little more investment in tech - features on their website like more and better webcams and online weather stations, electric signage at the road, digital display maps at the lodge and similar investments could improve their communications and customer satisfaction. Lastly- they really need to offer printed maps- even if they have to charge for them... the mountain is a little weirdly laid out and having no printed maps detracts from the experience for new patrons. It seems like they invested a lot into a new chairlift higher on the hill, but could maybe have put more focus towards basic ops, backup power, tech upgrades, and more snowmaking equipment for a longer season. All in all a good, unique resort that could use a bit of help to be...
Read moreIt was a nice park. The rental department was great 8 out of our group rented equipment the staff were all friendly and got us in and out pretty quickly. It was my sons first time snowboarding. He tried it on his own in the morning but we decided to get a lesson in the afternoon the manager in guest services was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. We were a group of family & friends for a total of 10 of us and 7 out of the group took lessons and everyone really enjoyed their instructors and felt like they learned a lot and their instructors were knowledgeable and friendly. The park was clean with a few different levels of runs. Not a lot of snow but it did snow a little the night before and that morning so there was a little powder. There were bathrooms outside and in the lodge they were clean and easy to find. There are small lockers in the lodge you can store small items for .50 cents but need quarters only and you will need .50 cents each time you get in your locker. The change machine was out of order while we were there and I had to go back to guest services for quarters but they were nice as well. Plenty of seating inside the lodge it was nice and warm with multiple big windows to watch what was going on in the park there was also a bar connected with a fire place and quite a few tables outside. We brought our own lunch and snacks we didn’t use any of the food services. Overall it was a great day and we would go back...
