We love Fort Hunt Park and go there often to walk the dog through the woods or on the loop road, go for a bike ride or a run. There are many pavilions you can reserve or just show up and hope no one else reserved. They have charcoal grills for use, bathrooms that are open most of the year. They often have Park Police horses in the stables and they are friendly and happy to see people. (Don't bring carrots or apples for them, though, its not actually very good for them) The park has battlements/fortifications that are fun to play on. I actually think they could make a really cool playground out of the main fortifications with long slides and cool climbing structures. There are deer in the park, have been eagle's nests at various times over the years, etc. It is also a great place to go if you want to bike/run/walk the Mt. Vernon trail along the...
Read moreWe recently rented lot D for my daughters 2 year old birthday party. It was such a cute place. The process to rent it out online was quick and easy. You have to get a license if you want to rent out a moon voice but other than that they allow beer and wine without an ABC license. There is so much park space around the gazebo that we set up a soccer field and had so much fun. The lot has a driveway up so you can drive up and place your grills or unload. They allow you to decorate and also placed a port-a-potty close since the neared bathroom facilities are pretty far away. There is also lots of parking. Great time and would love to rent...
Read moreWhat was once a prisoner of war camp in World War 2, it's now a nice, safe place to run, walk, or cycle, or just relax. The park consists of one large paved loop, approx 2.5 miles around, and a speed limit of 15 mph for vehicles. Most of the loop is one-way for cars. There is one paved offshoot path that is closed to vehicles. There is also a gravel path that runs through the middle of the loop. All throughout the park, there are many parking areas and picnic pavilions that are sometimes closed for private events.
There used to be a stable for the horses used by the US Park Police, but it's no longer there.
The park is open to the public from sunrise to...
