I must say this is one of the greatest things in Mt Vernon. It was the first place I took my family to when they came to visit from Chicago Illinois. There are a lot of good views of the down town and the farm land surrounding. It was a great choice if you want something closer to an intense climbing experience or something more relaxing and less scary with lots and lots of trails you can choose from. There is ample parking at the top of the mountain with some handi-access spots and some other areas you can pull off if you want to ride a mountain bike down. Speaking of which, walkers and hikers beware of rogue cyclists that do not follow the rules and ride down the walking trails even during busy weekends. And if you are planning on riding down no-bike trails, DON'T. You are going to lose access to the whole area and ruin it for the rest of the community. Not to mention you can cause someone serious harm! Really this last point should be higher up but this park is great because of the ease of accessibility for all sorts of persons so anyone and everyone is...
Read moreWhat a little gem this place is. The overlook is a small turn around with about 20 parking spots at the top of little mountain. . A roomy, easy lot to navigate through. Once at the top there's a few trails to choose from, (they were doing construction on a few of the trails when I was up there so just watch yo back and step, and wear appropriate shoes!!!) Most are easy to moderate and are marked accordingly. The views are breathtaking and you can see the whole valley and then some. But the cherry on top is the main overlook that extends out over the mountain. It's just awesome. You kind of feel like a kid walking to the edge and looking out and over the railing (please note there are no nets or safety precautions on the overlook so I would not recommend sitting and/or climbing on the railing). Overall a great family place or really for anybody who wants...
Read moreLittle Mountain has a great variety of trails depending on your skill level. Several of the options are kid-friendly and one of them is bike-friendly with many switchbacks. There are two viewpoints at the top and a few short trails up there as well. You can hike all the way from the bottom (starting at one of two traheads - East or North) or park halfway or drive all the way to the top depending on your preference and the amount of time you have. Great views at the top and several...
