Witnessed a meeting between 4 owls. It was loud and angry with huge wings everywhere and 2 of the 4 owls flying off. 1 of the remaining 2 was fairly close and it watched me as I approached to get a pic of it but it allowed me to get close enough to use my phone to capture the pics. This day was a misty day and one of the first ones of the changing season. After ge tly showering the area through the night as well, it seemed that the forest was rejoicing the coming damp season and there were woodpeckers, squirrels, small birds, snails and giant slugs everywhere. Read moreVisited a year later, and love this trailhead. Easily accessible in the Mount Vernon area. Get there early for a parking space, and wear comfortable boots or hiking shoes. The signage for the trailhead were plentiful. I opted to follow the Cairn trail to the LaZboy trail and the views didn't disappoint. There is no restroom at this trail, but it is mere minutes away from Mount Vernon. Afterwards, drive two miles west to the Cruisin' Coffee for a delicious hot chai vanilla latte or coffee. I will visit again. Easy to determine which trailhead I was on, and I plan to hike the other trails next time...
Read moreOne of our favorite local trails to walk. Always very clean, great signs along the trail explaining the plants, and less crowded then the main entrance. Great access to the remainder of the trails at Little Mountain as well. We love bringing our dog here. One thing to note is they do have break-ins (we haven’t had it happen) but always recommend not having anything of value left in...
