Moxie Falls is a beautiful 90-foot waterfall between Lake Moxie and Kennebec River, one of the highest in Maine. We took our dog here for a nice hike. There is a parking area along Lake Moxie Road and an easy 1-mile trail leads to an overlook at the top of the waterfall with excellent views. The hike is easy up to this point. To reach the base, it's a very steep climb down, but there are plenty of roots to hold on to. Once down, climb the rocks to go upstream. There are two nice cascades below the main drop that aren't visible from the top. There's a huge pool at the base of the main drop that makes an excellent swimhole. If you want to swim without the steep climb down, there are several swimholes along the creek upstream...

However, I want to reiterate what DavidMary Duncan said above--Google is not to be trusted if coming from Greenville. C C C Road/Shirley Tote Road is terrifying. Take 1516201 and save yourself a suspension, sanity and tears--probably less time too.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorth the walk to the falls from the car park (no toilets etc.). A 10 minute walk gives good access to part of the falls. A lot of people use this as a place to come and dip. The majority of people return from the falls as we arrived had already been in the water. A point of note, upstream they flush water through 4 times A-day. Notices saying the water can go up by 5 meters within one minute are around pointing out planning...
