We where at the Lighthouse on Sunday 9/25. a completely unexpected stop. We were Heading back to Kenosha Wisconsin from a week of exploring the U.P. We just saw a sign then quickly made the left on to that rustic road. We were amazed as soon as we pulled up to the grounds. a lady came out of the quarters and greeted us as we were heading to the wonderful gift shop. as we happily paid our fee to enjoy the facility she was giving us some info. as we started asking some more questions, She phoned Marilyn who was there almost instantly. What we thought was going to be a quick stop turned into a 3.5 hour excursion of awesomeness. I literally had to force myself to leave because we wanted to see the Big Spring. I could have stayed 3 more hours. That was our lucky day. Marilyn is a great historian and had fascinating stories and little interesting tid bits of knowledge to pass along. all in all it was one of the greatest lighthouse experiences I've had. I've been to many lights from Virginia to Maine and other Great lakes lights. but this was a quality experience that we will cherish forever. Whitefish was an excellent experience but Seul Choix will forever be coveted with...

Really cool lighthouse on Lake Michigan perfect location to watch a gorgeous sunrise. I realize most lower peninsula michiganders associate Lake Michigan with sunsets however if you make you way into the U.P. you'll find that many beaches are also suited for sunrises. One of the most memorable sunrises to date for me. Partly due to the almost six hour drive to get there. But also just so happened to be standing on a Lake Michigan ice shelf watching the waves crash into the feet thick ice as the sun put on quite the display amplified by the clouds made the trip well worth it. Would be interested in seeing the beach in the fall once the leaves changed colors. There was significant snow along the southern shores of the U.P. my best guess would be 2 or 3 feet. We also went to Munising which is on the shore of Lake Superior and they probably had closer to 5 feet of snow on the ground was so amazing to see...

NOT FAMILY OR SERVICE DOG FRIENDLY!!!!!!! PLEASE DON'T PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS!! A family member in my party was denied access because she had her service dog with her. We tried explaining that under the Americans Disabilities Act (federal law) the dog was allowed with her, but they didn't care. The tour guide also snapped at my 2 year old for talking at the very start of the tour. Who does that?! After that we left. Below is pictured the section of the ADA that was violated in case anyone needs it. UPDATE: The lighthouse claimed that the DNR told them to require a vest/harness identifying the dog as a service dog and a card/certificate for entry. I called the DNR and they said they would not have done that as it's a violation of the ADA. When I called to talk to the lighthouse after speaking to DNR she hung up on me (very mature and a sure sign they know they are...

An out-of-the-way "Michigan Lighthouse bucket-list" item, but well-worth the effort! The lighthouse is immaculate, as well as the surrounding museums, featuring hundreds of historic artificacts and replicas, including lighthouse equipment, furnishings and dress items. Tower access is limited to only 5 at a time due to a smaller viewing area, but the climb is somewhat easier (96 steps) than other towers, still proving a stunning view of the surrounding lake, land and islands. According to one of the volunteer curators (who's worked there 30+years), there are five spirits present on the property and there are photos to prove it (taken before Photoshop was invented). Good news is these are friendly souls who used to live there many years ago.
