We live in N.C and came to WV this weekend for 2 reasons. On Saturday, We buried my youngest sister ( she was only 36) in Peirpoint with our grandparents and Sunday was our annual family reunion which we hadnt been able to attend in many years so My Father reserved 3 rooms for our family to stay at the Lodge for 1 night ( August 14th 2021). As I'm sure you can imagine, Saturday was an emotionally exhausting day for our family and we were needing a peaceful environment to allow us to greive but that's not what we got... First off, my father couldn't het the door to his room open, maintenance had to come change the battery in the front door... Then the sliding door to the back porch would not slide open... It took 3 grown men to pull the door open... Then there was a spider in the bed... , all he wanted to do was sit comfortably and try to remember the happy times with his daughter... His wife was trying to get him to eat so she ordered 1 steak, mash potatoes, 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and some fried green tomatoes... $75.00... But here's the kicker.. After all the money he has spent , THE POWER GOES OFF..and I don't mean it flickered, I mean it was out for hours...for almost 5 hours... Which made thing real uncomfortable... Now I just want to say I understand things happen, and I am not one who complains over every little thing, but when someone is spending that much money expecting a certian experience that is advertised and all this goes wrong, at least make an offer to make things right.. A means a discount on the rooms, an late checkout, something... But not even an apology at check out... We were very disappointed and won't be staying here again unless someone...
Read moreA beautiful resort in a beautiful state. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, but there are a few glaring issues preventing Twin Falls Resort from reaching it's full potential.
The first issue and probably the easiest to fix is the group of housekeepers constantly chain-smoking cigarettes right in front of one of the main entrances. My 3 year old and I had to hold our breath every time we went back and forth from our room, and the smoke smell permeated throughout that wing of the hotel. There are signs clearly posted on the doors that say smokers must be at least 20 feet from the doorway. These smokers (exclusively employees) hang out less than 3 feet from two different entrances.
The bigger issue that's going to take a lot more effort to solve is the restaurant. We had a small group of 6-8 people staying at the resort this weekend and each one of the 5 meals we ate in the restaurant took well over an hour to get to our tables after we placed our order. The food quality was not at all in line with the price point; as a chef myself, I can easily identify the shortcuts they are taking using frozen, canned, and other heavily processed pre-made ingredients. It would be nice to have some honest country-style scratch cooking. The servers were all pleasant enough, and in fact mostly seemed as frustrated by the experience as we were.
It's easy to just say "we were understaffed" and not look any deeper into the issues at hand. Go ahead and do that if that's your style. On the other hand, you could always dig deep, work hard, and commit resources to solving the problems. This place has so much potential and I suspect all it needs is some dedicated...
Read moreThe state of West Virginia is home to some of the best state parks in the nation. Of course, in every network there are always positives and negatives, and Twin Falls is no exception. The park is home to attractive scenery and interesting hiking trails (albeit not particularly ADA friendly if you want to actually see the falls). The rooms at the lodge and the cabins are spacious, comfortable, and inviting. Unless you play golf, you might feel your choices of activites are limited as compared with some of the other parks in the state.
The real weakness of Twin Falls is the lodge restaurant. Coming from a hospitality background, it is obvious there is little to no front of the house training or accountability. The wait staff we encountered were ill informed of their own menu, did not know cooking temp options for beef, did not prebus, did not come back to check on their guests for extended periods of time...sure signs of a lack of attention. We received our salads 45 seconds before our meals and did not receive take away tableware with our take out desserts. Worst of all, the park is still using plastic plates, bowls, and tableware while other WV state parks are setting proper service. Have you ever tried to eat a 25 dollar steak with a plastic fork, cooling rapidly on a plastic plate? Now I have.
These unnecessary shortcuts in the name of Covid reduce overall quality, do not improve sanitation as compared.to silverware and ceramic, and actually cost the park more in the long run. Service is important, and Twin Falls comes up short in this as compared to...
