Lake Metigoshe State Park — Attraction in Municipality of Deloraine – Winchester

Wife and I came for the weekend and we're really surprised that the campgrounds were not completely packed! It was nice and quiet and we only had one neighbor, a very nice local couple.

There are two loops in the modern campground. The smaller loop is where we stayed and a word of advice... if you have anything thing more than a 23ft travel trailer you will not fit in this loop (and you would need shorter for a few of these sites). The sites in the small loop share a water hookup, so bring a Y-splitter at at least 30ft of hose. The bath house in the small loop is quite old and could use some work, but it was clean. I can not speak for the larger loops bath house, but the larger loop is where you need to be with a longer trailer (but it was also much busier). The two loops share a new and very nice playground. It was probably one of the largest playgrounds I have seen in a campground.

The day use area is very nice with lots of parking right on a beach with a swimming area. The bathrooms here are really nice. There is also tent camping in very close proximity to the beach. There is also a nice off leash dog area between the beach area and the public water access. We made our way down to the beach each night to watch the beautiful sunsets across the lake.

Overall we are so glad we made the trip! If you have time, it is only a short drive up to the International Peace Garden. You do not need a passport, but it is recommended to make things a little speedier. Turtle Mountain Provincial park is also right across the board into Manitoba. There are two look out towers you can hike to. The tower on Lake Adam is the shorter of the two hikes (maps, day passes, & help available at the ranger station in the modern campground on the north side...

Came for the mountain bike trails but I have also rented canoes here. There really is quite a bit to do at the park and a lot of beautiful scenery. Large variety of birds in the area with a checklist available if you want to keep track of what you've seen. I came in late May and there were a lot of dragonflies, mosquitoes were not as bad as expected though. Typical warnings about ticks and Lyme disease were up but I didn't get any ticks, just make sure you check thoroughly when you get back to camp. I wore pants, a helmet, and protective glasses. The singletrack that is available is pretty cool, and fun to ride. I've never ridden anything wild yet and I think that's a big reason this area isn't more highly reviewed. If you come in expecting the Rocky Mountains with Moab downhills you will be dissapointed. This is still ND, and yes the Turtle Mountains are actually just hills. Come for the wildlife and scenery, great food, people, and large variety of things to do and you won't regret it. Hope to see you...

I've stayed here many times over the years, we usually stay in the Cormorant cabin. We stayed in the Blue Heron Yurt this time because it seemed interesting and different from the cabin, they also have a heated outhouse for the yurt which was mentioned that some of the other cabins do not have which is very nice during the winter, would highly recommend. You're right on the lake with a super nice gas fireplace that keeps it nice and toasty, and can watch the flames like a real fireplace without the hassle. There is a skylight in the Yurt so if it's not cloudy you can fall asleep to the stars as well. During the summer there is windows all around the Yurt that you can open and get spectacular views. Lots of deer around as well! Also has a grill and firepit but we didn't use it because we forgot to get wood but I'm sure that they sell it in the park.
