I recently graduated from Chowan University. My four years were life changing. Chowan gives students average students a chance to attend a University despite having grades or test scores that might hinder them at other universities. Rather than focus on looking amazing on paper, Chowan focuses on giving students a chance at a fresh start both academically and spiritually. I was that average student who was denied by other schools, but Chowan gave me a chance to have a new beginning. I thrived at Chowan academically graduating among other at the top of my class, and socially having been involved in more organizations than I can count. Chowan is what you make it. If you're not going to be involved or focus academically, then it's probably not the place for you. If you want a big name school, it's not the place for you. If you care more about it being in a city where there are malls and buses, then it's not the place for you. BUTTTTT If you want a fresh start surrounded by faculty and staff who are going to be there for you and make sure that you leave the absolute best version of yourself, then this is the place for you. If you want to focus on your studies but not have to sacrifice a social life and extra curricular activities, then this is the place for you. If you want to be on a campus that's diverse and changes every year, this is the place. Chowan is not ranked the #1 fastest growing University in NC for no reason. It's changing and growing every day. It gets better every year. If you don't believe me, then see it...
Read moreI am giving one star because I have to give at least one! If you are intelligent or believe that you are, don't go to this place. It is a waste of money. Basically, if you have a pulse, you will get in; this "university" is basically a diploma mill. The students here are by large extremely lazy, so the professors make things easier and easier every semester, but people still complain. In a certain class I had last year, someone complained that they had to spell correctly on the exams! I was like, "seriously?"! That's why I'm transferring; I think a degree from this place would be really worthless because most graduates from here are not going to measure up to the real world! They even claimed at one point on their old website that they are an institution that "give the average or below-average students a chance"! Good Lord, when I saw that, I thought to myself, "oh no, I don't want to be considered below-average by having a degree from here!" If I were a parent, I wouldn't send my kids to Chowan (even the professors who can send their kids here for free would choose to send them elsewhere, so you go figure!). It's totally a waste of time and money, and in the end you get a piece of paper that, at best, makes you look average, and at worse, makes you...
Read moreDO NOT go here. Enrolled, was accepted, attended the soar event signed up for classes, was about to start in a week. Went up to the school to find my classes and get some information as communication had been non-existent. Was told when I arrived that my program had been completely cut without any notice and I had to change my major. They opted to try to change me to the graphic design major which is NOT at all the same as studio arts. No warning or anything about this. Nearly all the staff know nothing about any of this. Half of them are wondering around aimlessly not a clue in the world as to what’s going on. Was promised an on campus counselor as well and then was told today that they haven’t had an on Campus counselor in several years. If I could go here simply for the handful of lovely staff I would. I’m not paying thousands for a degree that I don’t want. The admissions staff seem to not care at all about any of the students either. Seems more like they care about money then anything. Down lots of money from admissions and medical notes they needed just to now not have an option for school this semester. Extremely...
