My roommate and I went on a back roads drive and ended up at the Fields of the Wood. We had no idea what it was and had never heard of it. But y’all. It’s worth seeing at least once in your life.
It’s the largest representation of the Ten Commandments in the world. And it really is HUGE. It’s pretty cool.
When you drive in, the commandments will be on your right. There’s a set of stairs that you can climb to the top to get to some kind of monument. I did not climb those. The view was better from opposite it.
On your left when you pull in, there’s a set of stairs that have monument/large plaques with Bible verses. The monuments are sponsored by churches in almost all 50 states. So that was cool.
One thing I would recommend: at the front of the prayer journey up that hill opposite of the Ten Commandments, have a QR code to prayer resources on how to do a prayer walk through that, or a QR code to something like The Jesus Film website that has the Jesus Film in over 2100 languages (the film is essentially the Gospel of Luke). That way people from other countries who visit can have a resource in their language. And people from the US can have some ideas on how to use that space for spiritual growth. I’d love to see people coming back to use that space for retreat days or something. Because...
Read moreDefinitely worth checking out at least once! Such a neat experience and it's free but you can leave a donation if you want to. We climbed 10 commandment mountain and I'm am not in shape, well I take that back... I'm A shape, round is a shape right?!?! Yall! I'm a hefty gal-- It was not too bad! I was counting the steps and counted 20 steps and I'd stop and it would be the next section. Well, my 20 steps and rest started to slow to 15 then 12, then 10, then stopping and sitting for a few minutes. So.many.steps. lol. The sections that had 20 steps in between got longer to 40ish steps between the next stopping point. nonetheless, I made it! I survived and I think I would probably do it again. Also after reaching the top, I learned that there was a drive-up trail. Oh- well! The handrail is a bit wobbly in places so be careful of that and just a few steps are damaged and 1 or 2 are a good bit taller than others. Be sure to check out the prayer mountain and the flags of the world too. I wanted a shirt but the gift shop and snac bar were closed due to...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this place on our way home after we had a wonderful day together!! We had heard about but never been there!! It was like entertaining a whole new world when we drove in. We took a loop road and ended up about a hillside that had the TEN COMMANDMENTS laid out below us in stone and concrete blocks!! It was one of those sights that just took our breath away. From the top of the hill we could see several buildings below and made our way to them to a gift shop. As we were about to enter, a gentleman met us close to the front door and told us he was closing because he was short handed and needed to get to town to drop off some equipment which needed repairs but told us he could give us 15 minutes. This site was started in the early 1940s as a missionary retreat and has grown and grown and is a beautiful place to visit!! We will be returning soon to visit earlier in the day!! I highly recommend visiting it to anyone who is...
