The museum is extremely small, with not a ton of physical things to look at. Our visit probably only took 15 minutes max.

When we entered we were greeted by a worker who gave us a short talk and explanation about shipwrecks around the island, and he did a great job. He showed some of the life saving equipment in the front room, and was very knowledgeable about the history of the island.

Beyond the initial welcome to the museum, there wasn’t much to do or so, as the place only really has 2-3 rooms total. Don’t plan to spend tons of time here.

The one convenient thing, was the information center downtown offers a free shuttle van back and forth, so we were able to...

I was offered a tour or self guide. I chose the tour. Absolutely the way to go. The gentleman brought you back to the time of heroism and bravery. The nautical antiques from the lifesavers and shipwrecks are well displayed and explained. There are several short movies about the history of the island that are well worth your time. Don't miss the Millie interview! Cute gift...

Great people. They give ya 20-30 minute tour (paid for with your entry ticket) and even have a few information sessions at different times of the day for free! After you are free to roam around and look. They even have a video of interested. The tour guide was super informative and we learned a lot even after coming to the island for 30 years....

What a lovely place! On an island that seems to have forgotten its past and has now devolved in to the ultimate consumer exploitation centre, it was lovely going somewhere that really gave you an understanding of what it used to be like on Nantucket!! Lovely staff, great value, amazing stories and a lovely setting, don't miss it!

Excellent place to visit on a rainy day or any day on Nantucket. Stop by on the Polpis Rd bike path. Reasonably priced admission. They had kids activities and a little play house for kids near the parking lot.
