This is a very nice dog park. I'm currently not a dog owner but I have been to plenty of dog parks in life lol. We stopped near this dog park to use the rest room near the lake on one of our famous family walks. We noticed a coyote prowling and skulking around trying to sneak into the dog park to get a closer to the dogs of course to eat one of the smaller ones. Yes there is a gated area where it looks like you and your dog are enclosed but there is plenty of tall grass for cover to hide coyotes and other predatory animals. I would say just be aware when you're out here with your pets guys pets are family and I know it would be devastating to have your dog hurt, taken or killed by a coyote looking for a meal, or for you to get hurt trying to protect your pet... I will take her to the small dog side on until she is...

The park is gigantic and is split up into two sides. This allows for the grass to heal on one side and not get too muddy. The park rangers do come and check for passes from time to time so if you intend on trying to sneak in for free, be wary that they actually do check.
Overall, the park is very well maintained. Owners who go here are responsible and actually clean up after their dogs. We now live closer to a free park which is nice, but the size and quality of Whalon Lake...
