Suprisingly awesome park. Went there because it was close to my house in May. Lovely scenery and tight trail. Several picnic benches and grills.
Old man that runs the park seemed incredibly sweet and nice when I answered him with sir as you should. He informed me that the park would close in 45 minutes. Which was fine by me. The problem was every 10 minutes after that he would come by and his golf cart and remind me of the time. This distracted me from the enjoyment, excitement, and peace provided by nature – which was the entire reason I was going to the park after working several 18 hour days.
I have previously worked as a park ranger and was going to ask the sweet old man if I could volunteer here to help clean up trash and other mismanaged items - having recently relocated to Nashville. After the encounters, I have since rethought my opinion.
In my opinion it's clear the old man has just had a tough life and likely been through at least one war. Either way the vibe he gives off is distracting and detracts from my experience as...

They only allow boats and fishermen to use the day area on the weekends now, but it's open to all on weekdays. They redirect you to the Cook Recreation Area (I think that's the name) with a little sandy beach, which everyone and their meemaw uses on a weekend, so it's loud and not very relaxing at all. And I don't think there's a lifeguard, which is kinda ripe considering they charge you five bucks to enter, and there are so many swimmers present.
Rating 5 stars for cook day use, because I understand that they need to restrict use since it gets so busy so I'm not mad or anything. It sucks that there aren't more day use areas with trails to go swimming in areas with privacy along the lake though. With so much shoreline, you'd think Davidson county would have more of that. But on a weekday this is still the best place to go for a dip in the stinky but refreshing waters of...
Read moreWont be back. Female gate attendant is rude. I pulled up to the booth a little too far away and apologized, made my adjustments as quickly as I could as to not make them wait but then was told “ You sure are in a rush” Nobody was even behind me. I wasn’t being dangerous in any way. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding but I was having a really bad day and just wanted to come to the beach by myself to read and your comment really upset me.
I got there at 3 and was told not to stay long because they close at 7. How are you already rushing people out before they even get there? Relax…
Ended up leaving at 345 because I just didn’t even feel like being there anymore. Bathrooms are...
