What an great place to be on the Fourth of July weekend. Entrance to everything in this spacious national park is free. Lots of exhibits inside and out and well presented. The story of homesteading and its history relationship to surrounding area very well told. There are two main buildings we saw both had gift shops. The staff greets you and will guide you through park and exhibits they are so helpful. There are two gift shops and staff greets you and is very willing to answer questions. You can even take time and research on computer your own family homesteader history. The walk around building nice exercise and very scenic farmland and nature. A most peaceful place where you can just relax hear the wind and birds and see what homesteaders saw. Lots of old farm equipment and other home and farm artifacts.    Read moreWhen we set out on this journey to go to the Homestead National Historical Park, we were not sure we even wanted to go. We were not sure about why anyone would want to go to a park about homesteading, but we are so glad that we stopped. We were able to learn all about the first homestead in America as well as the last homestead. We learned about the history of the homestead act, and how it played a role in American history.
